A teacher talks, face to face, with her students sitting in the classroom while on a giant screen other young people
follow the class from their homes
, with the cameras of their computers or cell phones.
Until a few years ago it seemed an image of the distant future, but the pandemic forced times to accelerate and in this new four-month period that is beginning it will become a reality.
The return to face-to-face classes, which is planned to be extended gradually at the different educational levels throughout August, will also reach
some public universities in the region.
Although the way in which this return to the classroom will be implemented depends mainly on how each house of studies decides, the general idea is that, in adult education, there is a
choice between the virtual and face-to-face modality depending on the subject.
For those who attend in person, at the UNLZ they installed 14 sanitizing towers, chinstraps and outdoor spaces.
This hybrid class dictation strategy has already been confirmed for the National University of Lomas de Zamora (UNLZ) and for the Guillermo Brown National University (UNaB), of Almirante Brown.
The others are looking at specific protocols.
Everything will be subject to the provisions made by
the national and provincial authorities.
In the case of the UNLZ, it will be decided to implement a bimodality plan that
will begin in the Faculty of Economic Sciences.
"The project contemplates that a group of students participate in person, with the relevant distance and application of protocols, and another connected remotely from their home through the Internet, all accessing
the same class
simultaneously," they detailed from the faculty.
This is a modality that had been previously thought out in the Faculty's Strategic Plan framework (PEPCEL), but the pandemic accelerated its application.
Thus, the UNLZ becomes one of the first universities in the country to apply this type of system, which in parallel will benefit students who live far from the university headquarters.
In the UNLZ they installed cameras in the classrooms to record all the classes and that part of the course can be seen from their homes.
In order to start applying this new modality, which will begin on August 23, they had to carry out works at the headquarters of the faculty.
"
14 classrooms were adapted
, making them bi-modal thanks to the incorporation of projectors, screens, computers, cameras, microphones and audio equipment, with the intention of achieving a comprehensive classroom experience both for those who are in person, and those that they use digital media to participate in the class, "they explained.
In addition, the Professional Practices Laboratory was remodeled to turn it into a recording studio with 4K cameras, ambient microphones and an audio console.
The objective is that teachers can
produce any type of
audiovisual
material
for their courses in these facilities.
To receive students who join the face-to-face modality, there will be
14 sanitizing towers
, chinstraps, face masks and equipment for spraying disinfectants throughout the Faculty as a whole.
The faculty also has new open-air spaces for recess moments, thus seeking to guarantee distancing and cross-circulation of air.
“The bi-modality plan is essential to continue improving the university experience for students and teachers.
We are going to
have one more tool to guarantee quality education
, a commitment that the public university must assume ”, remarked the Dean of the Faculty of Economic Sciences Gabriel Franchignoni.
On the other hand, at the UNaB they are also entering a new stage in teaching classes that includes face-to-face instances.
Already in the dental laboratory career that is taught at that university, they
carried out some
on-site
practices in
laboratories of the UBA and they plan to implement a hybrid plan in this new semester that prioritizes, mainly, newcomers to the degrees.
"The hybrid scheme that we propose will be mainly aimed at
practical subjects, laboratory activities and workshops,
and professional practices that we have in agreement with Brown's industrial parks," explained Ignacio Jawtuschenko, spokesman for that study house.
The UNaB has quite a particular experience since it is a new university that practically
began its activities with the beginning of the pandemic
, which is why most of its 2,500 students have not yet had the opportunity to attend face-to-face classes.
"Our idea is to start with a university reengagement plan, especially with first-year students, to allow them contact with university life," said Jawtuschenko.
In addition to those who are studying in the eleven undergraduate courses, the UNaB has
4,000 registered
for the next extension courses and workshops that begin in a few days.
Currently the classes were being offered exclusively through the virtual university campus, with asynchronous classes, forums, recorded videos and synchronous encounters that emulated the classes "live" but through the screen.
In parallel, the works are progressing in what will be the physical headquarters of the University once the pandemic ends and which will be located on the premises of the former Quinta Rocca (Burzaco).
"We perceive a lot of desire to study on the part of the students and how from this very difficult experience of the pandemic there are many expectations placed on being able to return to the university life that we had," they affirm from the UNaB.
