The Corona rules determine our everyday life and they are made based on the incidence: More and more countries are turning away from this - only Bavaria is still calculating.

Berlin - The incidence is increasing.

But is the incidence still relevant?

In the fight against Corona and in the struggle for easing, more and more countries are looking for a new formula to express the danger to citizens more precisely.

At the request of the

dpa,

numerous other state governments in addition to Baden-Württemberg and Lower Saxony are now announcing that they will use further criteria in the future.

The seven-day incidence *, i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days, has so far been the basis for many corona restrictions in the pandemic, such as the federal emergency brake that expired at the end of June.

Corona: Bavaria continues to adhere to the incidence - but is counting on the new formula

At the Prime Minister's Conference last Tuesday, however, there was no agreement on common, new parameters that could serve as a basis for new measures.

The next day, Baden-Württemberg decided to delete the seven-day incidence from the state's Corona * regulation.

As of today, regardless of the development of the infection, everyone is allowed to take part in social life if they have been vaccinated, recovered or tested.

Lower Saxony also announced that it would include other criteria in its Corona regulation in addition to the incidence, such as the occupancy rate of the hospitals.

"It is clear that, in addition to the incidence, there will also be a look at the contact follow-up and the situation in the hospitals," says the Bremen health department.

Incidence: The number of corona patients in hospitals should be included

However, whether and which new warning levels will result from this has "not yet been finally clarified".

The number of corona patients in the clinics seems to be indisputable as an additional decision criterion.

In the most populous federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia in particular, the situation in the intensive care units is currently deteriorating.

A total of 237 Covid patients across Germany are being invasively ventilated - 66 of them in North Rhine-Westphalia alone.

This is evident from the figures in the Divi intensive care register.

Bavaria is in second place (28).

Bavaria is sticking to the incidence for the time being *.

In the current 13th Infection Protection Ordinance, which is valid until August 25, the incidence mark of 50 is of great importance: In addition, test evidence is again required in restaurants when several households are sitting at one table, and more tests in hotels and during sports.

Contact limits (primarily for unvaccinated people) also apply again.

At schools in Bavaria the incidences 25 (mask requirement) and 100 (change of lessons) are important.

Bavaria has announced a proposal for a new Corona formula - but has not yet been implemented

But Bavaria is no longer completely happy with it. “With the subject of incidence and other factors, I would have liked to have found clearer parameters. The federal government is once again required to present what, ”said Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) last week.

However, he himself had said in July that a proposal would come from Bavaria as to how hospitalization and vaccination progress could be incorporated;

a working group of the conference of health ministers should bring this down to a “simple, communicative formula”.

Neither a proposal nor a formula have been heard so far.

Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) only indicated that the vaccination rate should be taken as a factor in the incidence: 50 percent vaccination rate * would then mean accepting twice as high incidences.
