In this episode, Dr. Huerta answers questions about the side effects of the covid-19 vaccine, in addition to other questions.

Does the vaccine modify our DNA?

Dr. Huerta responds 5:25

(CNN Spanish) -

Post-vaccination infections are part of the questions we receive this week in this episode of questions and answers about the coronavirus.

Dr. Elmer Huerta clarifies these doubts, as well as questions about the delta variant, the side effects of the vaccine, among others.

You can listen to this episode on Spotify or your favorite podcast platform or read the transcript below.

Hello, I am Dr. Elmer Huerta and this is your dose of information about the new coronavirus, information that we hope will be useful to take care of your health and that of your family.

Today we will answer some questions that we have been asked on our Twitter account @DrHuerta.

If I get vaccinated, is protection lost?

Questions about post-vaccination infections

@drhuerta @CNNArgentina if I already have my two doses of La Moderna and it infected me, can I contaminate my family with COVID?

- Maria Herrera (@ Mariaferh04) August 13, 2021

advertising

Hi Maria, that's an excellent question.

Of course, as we heard in the episode of August 13, since no vaccine is one hundred percent effective, infection is still possible.

Being infected, it is possible to spread it to other people.

That is why the person who develops covid-19 after vaccination, must follow the same rules of isolation and prevention of any infected person.

@drhuerta a doubt doctor good day on July 22 I vaccinated against him.

Covid gave me the.

First dose of aztrazeneca and on August 12 I came out positive for covid but I have not presented symptoms the question is it is necessary to take antibiotic and antiviral treatment

- Jaime Fidel Garcia (@JAIMEFIDEL) August 13, 2021

Hi Jaime, you don't need to take any antibiotics or antivirals.

Remember that antibiotics are only effective against bacteria and SARS CoV2 is a virus.

On the other hand, unfortunately no antiviral drug has yet been discovered that can eliminate the new coronavirus.

@drhuerta my dad was given aztraseneca and a week ago they gave him the second dose, he had reactions but today he woke up with covid symptoms, it was to do the test and it came out positive, won't the vaccine work?

- McFly (@AleexMcfly) August 12, 2021

Hello McFly, I beg you to listen to the episode of August 13.

There you will see that infections after vaccination are expected and in no case indicate that the vaccines do not work.

That's because the main benefit of vaccines is to protect against serious illness and death.

Almost all infections after vaccination are mild.

@drhuerta is it true that people vaccinated with sinofarm from the delta variant are dying?

- alejandro (@ dalejand92) August 11, 2021

Hello, Alejandro, as far as we know, no scientific study has yet been published that has shown, with the genetic sequencing of the virus, that someone vaccinated with Sinopharm has died of covid-19.

I have the 2 doses of Pfizer, am I free of the Delta mutant?

Recommendations please @camilocnn @drhuerta

- Azucenita Avendaño (@azucenita) August 11, 2021

Hi Azucenita, as we heard in the August 13 episode, no vaccine is one hundred percent effective, so an infection by any variant is still possible.

The practical recommendation is that vaccinated people should continue to care for the infection until the majority of the population is vaccinated.

How to mitigate the side effects of vaccines?

Questions about vaccine side effects

@drhuerta dear Doctor, it is true that one of the symptoms seen in women has been the alteration of hormones.

How to influence your menstrual periods?

- KAREN (@karen_tocain) August 11, 2021

Hi Karen, this is a very important topic and it is being studied.

It is true that many women have been observed to have alterations in their menstrual cycle after the vaccine, but its cause is not known.

More research will be needed to clarify this important issue.

@drhuerta a warm greeting from Mexico!

Excuse me, is it possible for side effect symptoms to appear, for the first time, until the fourth day after I get the Pfizer Covid vaccine?

- MARIA MAGAÑA (@ MARI2011MAGA) August 11, 2021

Hi Maria, the common is that the side effects of the vaccines are immediate, however, some more delayed side effects could occur.

My suggestion is to consult with a doctor to rule out any other process that may be causing the symptoms.

@drhuerta Dr after receiving the 1st dose of Sinopharn I have felt emotionally affected: depressed and irritable.

Is that normal ...?

- jose gonzalez (@pjagonzalez) August 9, 2021

Hi José, we do not know which days after the vaccination there were mental health disorders like the ones you mention.

What has been observed is that immediately after the vaccine at five mass vaccination sites in the United States, 64 anxiety events were reported, including 17 events of syncope or fainting spells.

Dr. Huerta I did not get vaccinated because I have sequelae of covid19 that are affecting me and they also told me that I do have to get tested for Elisa first.

Please answer my question

- Adalid Ticona (@ AdalidTicona3) August 8, 2021

Hello, Champion.

First of all, I tell you that having sequelae from covid-19 is not an impediment for you to stop vaccinating yourself.

On the contrary, some studies indicate that the Pfizer vaccine could improve the symptoms produced by the aftermath of covid-19.

Regarding the test, you do not need to take any tests before vaccination.

@drhuerta good night, apologizing for the time I wanted to ask you a question 1 week ago my father-in-law had muscle pain and these pimples began to appear according to what they told him is a reaction with herpes from the Pfizer vaccine.

They told him it will only disappear but it has increased pic.twitter.com/K05kmXp1ZP

- Mr. Ivan Flores (@ MrIvanFlores1) August 14, 2021

Hello Ivan.

I am very sorry about what is happening with your father.

Messenger RNA vaccines do not cause this disease.

On rare occasions, vaccination appears to coincide with a reactivation of the chickenpox virus that causes the disease.

Please see an internist to see your dad.

It will go away in about 10 days.

Questions about the interaction of antigen and other drugs

I need to know if being with the first dose of sputnik vaccine and taking Ivomec affects it?

- Evelin Paredes Andia (@AndiaParedes) August 14, 2021

Hello, Evelín, good question.

First of all, remember that ivermectin is not recommended by any major regulatory agency in the world, including the FDA, the European Medicines Agency, and the WHO.

This is because it has not shown any effect on the prevention or treatment of the disease.

However, I tell you, if you can get vaccinated, get it as soon as possible.

That will work to protect it.

Dr 3 days ago my brother had a simple maxillofacial procedure, 2 days ago he stopped taking acetaminophen and ibuprofen, but he is currently taking amoxicillin and nimesulide, can he get vaccinated or how long should he wait to do it?

Thanks

- Alexandra López S (@ alelosu22) August 11, 2021

Of course Alexandra, your brother must continue taking his medications and if he is relatively well and without symptoms, he can be vaccinated.

Remember that if you do not feel well and have any symptoms, you may feel worse from the side effects of the vaccine that may occur.

Is it true that taking antibiotics days after being vaccinated with astrazeneca affects its effectiveness (of the vaccine)?

- El Ro (@ roesp74) August 13, 2021

Good question El Ro.

If for some reason the doctor has prescribed that a person take antibiotics, they do not need to stop them to get vaccinated.

Remember that medical treatment for any disease must continue, before and after vaccination.

Experts are already talking about a round of 1:22 booster shots

Questions about vaccine mixtures or booster doses

@drhuerta good morning.

I was vaccinated with the Jansen in May and I have heard that you have to get a booster shot, either from modern or from pfizer.

I have not wanted to do it waiting for Johnson & Johnson to speak, but there is no way.

What do you advise me?

Kind regards.

- Vanezza (@ Vanezza72985457) August 14, 2021

Hi Vanezza, as of this writing, no regulator in the world has mandated that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine should receive a booster dose.

I beg you to be attentive to our podcasts or to the signal of CNN in Spanish so that you find out if it happens.

@drhuerta Hello, I am Chilean and I received 2 doses of Sinovac vaccine and now they are going to give us a booster dose with Astrazeneca, is it reliable?

- Lucero Del Alba (@luceromanzul) August 11, 2021

Hello Lucero, the Chilean government announced a study in which this combination was safe and produced neutralizing antibodies, so that a public policy decision based on science and evidence is reliable.

Other questions about covid-19

@drhuerta I am a dentist, and occasionally I treat anti-vaccine patients, some of them seek confrontation, with or without argument;

the truth is frustrating to deal with them, my question is how I should proceed: not informing them, limiting myself to my work or antagonizing.

- Hugo C (@ HugoC90118054) August 11, 2021

Very good question, Hugo.

I think you could explore their level of understanding and offer them some printed materials on the effectiveness of vaccines.

Sometimes it is very difficult to make a person who does not want to listen listen to you, but I believe that antagonism should never be used with a person who does not believe in vaccines.

Violence only begets violence.

@drhuerta Dr Huerta, I ask him, I live in Honduras, here there is still a low level of vaccinated people but I was vaccinated with Johnson, 2 months ago, should I continue to use a double mask or can I use only one?

- Brandon Alejandro Castro (@vadedy) August 14, 2021

Hi Brandon, great question.

As we heard in the August 13 episode, no vaccine is one hundred percent effective and therefore the possibility of becoming infected, whether with the delta variant or any other, is always present.

Take care of yourself with a double mask or an N-95.

@drhuerta, good day, please, I would like to know if a young man with G6PD hemolytic anemia can be vaccinated and what care should be taken, thank you

- Luchy68 (@ Luchy682) August 9, 2021

Hello, Luchy, of course, a person with this type of congenital anemia can be vaccinated against covid-19.

Obviously, it is always important to consult with the personal physician.

What is the probability that an even more dangerous variant will emerge from the delta variant?

- Saelovich (@Saelovich) August 9, 2021

Saelovich, that's an excellent question.

Of course, it is unfortunately possible that the delta variant can mutate to a different type of virus.

What cannot be known is what type of mutation would occur, if more or less dangerous.

@drhuerta Hello Dr. Huerta, Juan De Abreu, from Caracas, Venezuela greets you.

Can I have a test to determine if the Sinopharn vaccine generated the antibodies after one month of the second dose?

It is to know if I am protected or not

- Juan De Abreu (@deabreujuan) August 15, 2021

Hi Juan, antibody tests to determine if the vaccine works are not approved by either the US FDA or the World Health Organization.

This is because these tests are not standardized and the results are very difficult to interpret.

Also, remember that there are two components to immunity, memory cells and antibodies, and these tests only look at this second type of defense.
