Impossible not to think about it right now.
On January 12, 2010, Haiti experienced an earthquake that had fatal and devastating consequences.
Now, more than 11 years later, the country is once again going through a situation of natural disaster caused by an earthquake.
Grace: what we know about the tropical depression threatening Haiti with further devastation
On Saturday, August 14, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck the country.
The seismic focus was located 10 kilometers deep and the epicenter was located 12 kilometers northeast of Saint-Louis du Sud, Haiti.
What is the difference with the earthquake of January 12, 2010?
On that occasion, it was one with magnitude 7.0, at a depth of 13 kilometers and with an epicenter about 25 kilometers from the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince.
This means that, compared to this Saturday, the 2010 earthquake had its epicenter closer to the capital and, therefore, reached many more people.
Early CNN weather estimates indicate that some 2.5 million people were within 50 miles of the epicenter of Saturday's earthquake.
On the other hand, in 2010, approximately 6.5 million people lived within a radius of 80 kilometers.

As it reached more people, the 2010 earthquake caused a greater number of deaths.
The death toll from that earthquake is estimated to be between 220,000 and 300,000 people, with another 300,000 injured.
As of this Monday morning, the earthquake on Saturday has left almost 1,300 dead and more than 5,700 injured.
