Johnny Depp: "Hollywood Boycotts Me" | Israel today

2021-08-16T08:56:14.749Z

The actor accused of violence against his ex-wife Amber Heard is now coming out against the industry he claims has embarked on a crusade against him

For the first time since he lost his defamation lawsuit in November 2020 against the British Sun tabloid who called him a "hit mecca" and also fired from his role in the "Wonder Beasts" film series, Johnny Depp decides to end the silence he imposed on himself and attacks the industry he claims boycotted him.

In an interview with the Sunday Times last Saturday, the actor came out against the Hollywood industry claiming he was blacklisted.

As proof, he noted the fact that the US screening date of the new film starring and producing "Minametta", in which he plays the character of Eugene Smith, a war photographer who travels to Japan to document the effects of Minimata disease (mercury poisoning) has been postponed indefinitely It is known that this is not the case, MGM acquired the distribution rights for the film more than a year ago with the intention of distributing it last February, but at the moment "Minmata" has not yet been widely distributed in the country and it is not known when and if this will happen.

"It affects Minamata residents and those who have experienced similar things," he said in an interview.

"And that Hollywood will compete with me? One person, one actor, who is in an unpleasant and messy situation in recent years?", He said angrily.

"We looked these people in the eye and promised not to take advantage of them," Depp said of the residents of Minamata.

As you may recall, Depp has in recent years waged an ugly and infamous divorce war against Amber Heard, whose he married in 2015, when the two parted ways with great fanfare 15 months later.

Since declaring a divorce, the two have filed mutual lawsuits against each other, with each side insisting that it is the victim of violence and humiliation.

In November 2020 Depp sued the British tabloid The Sun following an article published in it in 2018, in which it was alleged that he beat his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The article mentioned Depp's casting for the "Wonder Animals and Where to Find Them" movie series, and read, "How can JK Rowling be pleased with the casting of 'The Women's Hit' Johnny Depp for the new film?"

Depp sued the tabloid for libel, but the newspaper for its part stood behind the publication and claimed that all the things said in it were true and based on evidence. The court accepted the line of defense and ruled that It caused her significant injuries and made her fear for her life. "
