Dramatic scenes on Monday at Kabul airfield: Thousands of people tried desperately to catch one of the few flights that could have taken them out of the country. Some clung to the landing gear even though the machine had already started. Other recordings allegedly show how people could no longer hold themselves after the start and fell from a great height. However, the authenticity of this video cannot be verified. Soldiers apparently fired warning shots to drive people off the runways. There are said to have been at least five deaths, but the cause is unclear.
A Bundeswehr plane took off from Baku for Kabul in the afternoon, but initially remained in a waiting loop in the air and then turned off again. American soldiers are working with other international forces to clear the airport. In the meantime, a Bundeswehr machine was able to land in Kabul and take passengers on board.
