Mask enforcement is tightening: Jerusalem and Tel Aviv have received the most reports | Israel Today

Jerusalem and Tel Aviv are the cities where the largest number of reports was recorded last weekend, for not wearing Corona masks. Indeed, enforcement data on Friday and Saturday reveal a sharp rise in the number of reports. Towards the end of last week the numbers began to climb. About 1,000 reports were given last Tuesday, on Wednesday the number jumped to 1,927 reports in one day, the next day on Thursday 2,102 citizens received And businesses fines, while on Friday 1,897 reports were recorded and on Saturday 1,698 reports due to not wearing a mask.

As for the breakdown of fines by cities, a police document obtained by "Israel Today" reveals that out of 5,697 reports given between Thursday and last Saturday, 665 were in Jerusalem, 619 in Tel Aviv, 220 in Tamra, 200 in Eilat and Haifa, 199 in Be'er Sheva, 193 in Beit Shemesh, 146 In Shefar'am, 99 in Ashkelon, 80 in Herzliya and Holon (each), 75 in Netanya, 73 in Carmiel, 70 in Nazareth and 69 reports in Rishon Lezion.

The police emphasize that enforcement actions are carried out at this stage solely by police officers, without local authority inspectors.

Government ministries are not currently involved in the activity, despite the rise in morbidity data.

Regarding the distribution of fines by sector, according to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, Israeli Arabs constitute about 20.6% of the total population of the country. Enforcement officials in the Ministry of Internal Security deny the allegations of over-enforcement and under-enforcement in the Arab sector. Evidence, based on these data, 23% of all reports of non-wearing protective masks were given in the Arab sector, 29% were given in the mixed cities and 48% in the Jewish cities.
