The gradual upgrading of the Starnberg Saturday Market to a meeting point with shopping opportunities is bearing fruit.

The offer has become wider, and city councilor Anke Henniger as the initiator is far from finished with the market.

Starnberg

- fruit, vegetables, fish and bread: This is how the Starnberg Saturday market started on the church square. But it has grown especially in the past few months. There is now also a butcher, flowers, Italian delicacies, regularly changing food trucks, coffee from the “Coffee Bike” and the champagne ape. It is the result of a project to upgrade the Saturday market - not just a place to shop, but also to linger. That's working.

“I love the new little stands,” enthused Vib Steenberg on Saturday in the church square. She has lived in Starnberg for five years and visits the market regularly. “The church square is the small Marienplatz. Just more relaxed. ”There she can buy anything, linger and chat. That was also the goal of FDP city councilor Anke Henniger. In January, in a conversation with Starnberg entrepreneurs, the idea of upgrading the Saturday market came up.

Henniger took the project in hand and gathered ideas together with the promotion of the location and other local entrepreneurs. “The first step was to find a butcher,” says Henniger. At a weekly market in Weilheim, the organizers met Rosi Kotz from the Fischer poultry farm near Schongau. “I've been selling in Starnberg since March,” reports Kotz. “I like it here a lot. Especially when the weather is nice, people sit around the whole fountain. ”Although there is little going on in August at the moment, she is confident that more people will visit the weekly market again after the holidays. Brigitte Winkler from Starnberg is one of her regular customers. "I mainly come here to go shopping, but when I meet someone we also chat," says Winkler.

The “Bubble Boutique” stand by Linda Kadner and Daniel Lichtenstein has been offering seating for such chats since the end of June. The two of them developed their concept especially for the Starnberg Saturday Market: An Ape converted into a sales van, from which they sell champagne and sparkling wine every Saturday, which customers can enjoy on cozy cushions on the church square. "If you want a change, you just have to take it into your own hands," says Lichtenstein. “And we want to keep people here in Starnberg.” This plan seems to be working. At least that's how Marile Schlemmer from the fruit and vegetable stand “Biodandla” judges it. She has been selling on the church square since the market began and has noticed the change over the past few months. "The market has established itselfthe range has been expanded and if the weather is right, it is a social meeting place. "

Stefanie Warneke from Pöcking was on Saturday with her son Elyas (6) for the first time at the Saturday market.

"We like it very much," she said.

“We'll probably come back.” Son Elyas was particularly pleased with the flowers at Lilly Strathmann's flower stand - also a recent addition.

Anke Henniger sees the development as positive: “I am satisfied so far, but we will continue.

There is still room for improvement. ”Bar tables and shaded seating are planned.

“And we hope that word will get around and that even more people will come,” says the city councilor and advisor for trade, commerce and tourism.
