The American experience in post-World War II Japan and Germany is irrelevant in the case before us, since it is a traditional, backward-looking population with no national identity.

Many Afghans benefited from the American presence, but many more were left behind, choosing to prioritize tradition - over changing world orders, and over a foreign and threatening world of Western values ​​and culture.

And beyond all this, the administration established by the Americans was rotten and corrupt, maintained in dollars and leaning on the bayonets of American soldiers.

And like a story whose end is known in advance, as soon as the Americans announced their intention to withdraw from the country, this regime collapsed like a tower of cards.

It would have been better, perhaps, in 2001, to hit the Taliban and leave the country, thus saving two decades of bloodshed.

But the heart goes out to the Afghans, who have been subjected to a regime of darkness determined to bring the country and its inhabitants back a thousand years.

In any case, no one asks for their opinion, and in any case they have no desire or power to oppose it.

Otherwise we would have seen a little more opposition to the Taliban, and minimal mobilization in favor of the government.

One can only hope that Taliban version 2021 will turn out to be the one who learned the lesson, both from Taliban version 2001 and from ISIS.
