Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed during a telephone conversation with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi today the developments of the situation in Afghanistan and their impact on the region and the world.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement today, "During the conversation, views were exchanged on strengthening coordination between the two countries in foreign policy, especially with regard to the recent events in Afghanistan and their impact on the situation in the region," noting that the two sides also discussed the schedule of bilateral contacts between the two countries, as well as in the framework of Participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and other multilateral formats.
The statement added that the two ministers stressed the importance of the Treaty of Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between Moscow and Beijing, whose twentieth anniversary is being celebrated this year, in order to develop the overall full scope of Russian-Chinese relations in a comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction, noting that Russian-Chinese relations have reached their highest level in history. .
In its statement, the ministry pointed out that on the occasion of the approaching anniversary of the end of World War II, special attention is being paid to issues of strengthening coordination in the face of attempts to falsify its history and reviewing its results, explaining that the two ministers agreed to hold joint events dedicated to the struggle of the peoples of the two countries against the Nazis and the military.
The two ministers also stressed the gradual progress of cooperation in combating coronavirus infection, including in the field of vaccine production and cooperation within the framework of the World Health Organization.
