Bad Wiessee - After the disaster in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, storms and floods were also discussed in Bad Wiessee.

As a reaction to the most recent storms and their grave effects, some members of the Bad Wiesse municipal council have now emphatically appealed for more climate and disaster protection.

Klaudia Martini (SPD) brought up the topic.

Martini made it clear that the floods in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate are not limited to regions.

“The local council must make it clear that this can happen to us too,” she emphasized.

Then you would be confronted in Bad Wiessee with a situation that people in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, for example, have now experienced.

Precipitation amounts of 200 liters per hour as in the Eifel are also quite conceivable in the Tegernsee valley.

"The flood is coming again, here too," said the former Environment Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate, and then castigated the inaction regarding appropriate precautions.

Climate committee without effect

As early as 2016, her parliamentary group applied for a corresponding catalog of measures: “We finally have to act. This is the only way we have the chance to save lives in an emergency. ”Martini also pointed out the consequences for nature at Tegernsee: the contents of an oil tank in a cellar could destroy the Tegernsee's ecosystem for years in the event of a disaster. Climate change and its visible effects must now be countered by reducing CO2 emissions. "We have to do something", Martini concluded her appeal to the council members.

Green group spokesman Karl Schönbauer joined these emphatic words. Climate change and its consequences are caused by humans. In addition to CO2 emissions, Schönbauer also cited increasing soil sealing, the straightening of rivers and the construction of flood zones as causes. Schönbauer regretted that the establishment of a climate committee six years ago had hardly found any expression in the form of concrete measures: "It gives the impression that we are a kind of Alibi committee." he argued.

It is regrettable, for example, that Bad Wiessee ultimately refused to participate in a municipal network for more energy efficiency in contrast to other valley communities and did not communicate this to the citizens: the decision was made in a non-public session.

"That was rejected, but the citizens then hear nothing more about it," complained Schönbauer.

“We have a very strong economic focus; perhaps a more ecological focus would also make sense in tourism,” he pointed out.

Mayor Robert Kühn thanked Schönbauer for the clear assignment.

BRK readiness with experience

"This is about responsibility, about the safety of our citizens", appealed to Benedikt Dörder (SPD) to the members of the municipal council. Applause alone is not enough. Rather, concrete action is important: "That is now a matter for the boss." Dörder also referred to specific experiences that he had made with his colleagues in the corresponding situations as the head of the Bad Wiesseer BRK readiness. It was about informing people about the possible dangerous situations, but also about equipping them with the necessary technology, he emphasized. Kühn referred to the planned expansion of the Zeiselbach as part of flood protection. You couldn't say the church did nothing.

At this point, Wolf-Hagen Böttger from the Greens thanked the employees of the building yard, who had taken care of the repair of the damage in an exemplary manner, for example the repair of about 30 centimeters deep grooves that the Zeiselbach overflowed in the adjacent footpath have: “We have really great people here in town.”
