There was a robbery in Causeway Bay two years ago. Three robbers smashed the glass windows of a watch shop with mallets and snatched 12 second watches worth more than 760,000 yuan. They used gun-like objects to deter others from approaching. Escape successfully.

The police seized three of the robbed watches and air guns in the back alley near the watch shop.

Two of the mainland robbers were arrested afterwards, and the police recovered the other two watches.

Two mainlanders pleaded guilty to one crime of robbery and were sentenced to 8 years in prison in the High Court today (16th).

The two defendants, Li Fuchao (25 years old, vegetable vendor) and Li Jianliang (26 years old, unemployed), admitted to robbing 12 watches in the "28 Watches" Phase I of Causeway Bay Plaza on December 22, 2019.

When the defense pleaded, the first defendant wanted to raise his sister’s university tuition, so he came to work in Hong Kong, but the work was inconvenient and eventually accepted someone’s proposal for robbery.

The lawyer representing the defendant stated that he came to work in Hong Kong because of debts, but was not introduced to work and eventually committed the case.

However, the judge pointed out that the financial problems of the two defendants were not an excuse for committing the crime.

The judge continued that the robbery involved three robbers and they acted in a planned way, using mallets, knives and air guns during the robbery.

In addition, the defendant also deliberately came to Hong Kong from the Mainland to commit crimes.

After considering the above factors, it was decided to sentence the two defendants to eight years' imprisonment.

The case alleged that at about 7 pm on the day of the crime, the first defendant and another man went to the watch shop involved in the case and broke the glass window of the shop with a mallet. The second defendant held a knife and a pistol to deter others.

During the period, the owner of the shop approached for a while, and the second defendant pointed a pistol-like object at the other party, telling him not to come forward.

They snatched 12 second watches, worth 762,000 yuan, and fled the scene.

The police arrived at the scene and seized three of the robbed watches, as well as an air gun, a knife and two mallets in the back alley of the mall.

The two defendants were arrested in January of the following year and recovered two robbed watches in the hotel room where the first defendant had lived.

The first defendant stated in the video interview that a fellow villager named "A Jia" had come to Hong Kong to commit the crime about 10 days before the incident, and introduced the defendant and another man to him.

"Ajia" paid him 5,000 yuan and stated that he would give him the points of the robbery after the incident.

The first defendant admitted to the crime, but accidentally lost three watches in a back alley.
