Extreme temperatures of up to 48 degrees prevail in the Mediterranean region.
Now the heat is also coming to Austria and Germany.
Munich - It's getting hot in Germany.
And very hot.
The scalding North African heat that has already spread to Italy, Spain and France is now coming to Austria and us.
The reason for this is the extremely strong high pressure area called "Elfi", which brings the heat from Africa over the Mediterranean here.
In Italy the hellish heat that prevails there is called "Lucifer" - the devil himself.
The high pressure area is already causing great heat in Austria today (August 13th).
The situation is similar in southern Germany.
The heat will then also develop in the west and east of Germany over the course of the weekend.
Temperatures of 48 degrees: Now the heat comes to us too
The Sahara heat is already causing record temperatures in the Mediterranean region.
On Wednesday (August 11th) a temperature of 48.8 degrees was measured in a small weather station in Sicily - a historic record for Italy and Europe.
A higher temperature has never been measured in Europe before.
The weather situation is currently similar in the south of Spain.
Until Monday the temperatures there will be 40 to 48 degrees.
Now the extreme heat is spreading to Austria and Germany (especially the south).
The 48 degrees stay away in our latitudes, but it is still very hot.
Today temperatures between 30 and 33 degrees already prevail.
On Sunday the thermometer climbs to values of up to 36 degrees.
In the afternoon the risk of thunderstorms increases every day until Sunday.
You can expect lightning, thunder and heavy rain every day.
Weather change on Monday: danger of thunderstorms and drop in temperature
On Monday the weather changes again and the temperature drops by 10 degrees in both Austria and Germany.
The change in weather goes hand in hand with an increased risk of storms.
Responsible for this change is the low pressure area "Luciano", which brings cooler and humid air from the Atlantic to Austria and Germany.
The extreme heat has already led to numerous forest fires in the Mediterranean area, which can hardly be controlled.
The fire is particularly raging in Italy, Greece and Turkey.
Task forces have been sent to these areas from many countries to provide support.
Still, the fire is difficult to control and dozens of people have already died.
