The Mediterranean country is a popular holiday destination with its beaches.

The upgrade as a corona high-risk area poses problems for travelers.

Berlin / Istanbul - On Friday, August 13th, the Robert Koch Institute classified Turkey, USA and Israel as corona high-risk areas.

Travelers who were in the United States and Israel did not have much time to respond; the deadline was Sunday night.

Vacationers in Turkey had a little more time, the new rules have only been in effect for them since midnight on Tuesday.

The consequences for returnees from the Mediterranean country can be read on the website of the Federal Ministry of Health.

  • Vaccinated and Genesis patients must complete a digital entry registration for the return journey and upload the relevant evidence.

  • If the travelers are neither vaccinated nor recovered, they have to go into quarantine for ten days.

  • From the fifth day, the quarantine can be ended with a negative corona test.

  • For children under the age of twelve, the obligation to quarantine automatically ends after five days.

Turkey classified as a Corona high-risk area: Around 170,000 package holidaymakers from Germany affected

The classification in the middle of the holiday season comes at an inopportune time.

The German Travel Association (DRV) estimates that around 170,000 package travelers are currently spending their holidays in Turkey.

In addition, there is a very large number of privately organized stays.

Many people of Turkish origin who live in Germany use the summer months to visit relatives and friends.

Turkey classified as a corona high-risk area: School-age children could miss classroom lessons

In particular, the quarantine requirement for those under twelve can become a problem, as there is no approved vaccine for them.

According to the DRV, this is an explicit disadvantage for families with younger children in particular.

Especially now, during the summer holidays, many families are on vacation with their children in Turkey.

DRV President Norbert Fiebig criticizes: “We have already pointed out that this decision by the federal government is in contradiction to European decisions.

It would be desirable for a change to be brought about here as soon as possible. ”A few weeks ago, the EU Council recommended that minors traveling with their vaccinated parents or companions should be exempted from quarantine.

Families with school-age children who are currently on vacation in Turkey are now faced with a problem.

If the return was only planned shortly before the end of the holiday, the quarantine of the students means that it is not possible to take part in face-to-face classes.

Alternatively, the vacation could be shortened so that the quarantine expires in time for the start of school.

Turkey classified as a Corona high-risk area: Thousands are spoiled for vacation

There is strong criticism of the federal government's quick decision.

The responsible ministers Jens Spahn and Horst Seehofer would react “too late, erratic and too short-term”, said FDP parliamentary deputy Michael Theurer, according to the

Berliner Morgenpost

.

The short-term classification of Turkey as a high-risk area would spoil thousands of vacationers because of the impending quarantine for unvaccinated people or the cancellation fee.

The background for the classification of Turkey as a high-risk area is the current infection situation in the country.

The number of corona cases in the country rose at the end of July, the incidence value is around 183 (as of August 17, Johns Hopkins University).

There is great concern that returnees from Turkey could fuel the infection process in this country.
