As a nation that does not consider itself of great importance in the world arena, New Zealanders are determined to show the world that they can act as a great country and achieve great things. The decision to impose a closure on the entire country has received support from residents because they know how to appreciate the freedoms that came after they managed to eradicate the plague in the first wave last year. They also protect vulnerable people, because an integral part of being New Zealander is to give love to those who know how to live a comfortable and enjoyable life. They
trust the government to make the best decision to protect them during the closure and during the epidemic. These are things that one of the residents of New Zealand told me.
Another resident told me they are very close to Australia and they see the disaster there - so they think it was a good idea to stop flights to Australia, and that it is now important to take the necessary steps to eradicate the infection as soon as possible.
The foreigners here also think it is a good idea. A young woman from America who I asked her for her opinion told me that she is very worried about the situation in the US, and hopes New Zealand will not get to her situation. She added that in the US the conspiracies are flourishing because people do not believe in their government. We see that people are willing to go into quarantine for seven days in the Auckland area and for three days in the rest of the state.
If it prevents disaster, then it is not terrible to go into quarantine for a few days or a week. In any case, people will receive grants for this period. Out of a population of 5 million, about 900,000 received two doses of vaccine, and about 1.5 million received at least one dose. I have been stuck here for 17 months now, and I think the decision to close it is wise, because it will prevent a significant increase in virus infection. In the coming days we will see how things go, and if we can get back to routine quickly. I think in a week we will have a better understanding of the situation and a better view of the future. Here people respect the request to wear masks on public transport, use smartphones to shop at the supermarket, and to "visit" other places. We'll wait and see.
