Actually, Penzberg and Langon wanted to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the town twinning this year.

A 50-strong delegation from Penzberg should set out on a trip to France next week.

But nothing will come of it.

The city of Penzberg has canceled the Langon trip.

The incidence of corona is too high in the Gironde department.

Penzberg - Last week, the Penzberg town hall was firmly on the assumption that a delegation would leave for Langon on the last Wednesday of August in the next week.

The focus of the program should be the 40 year old town twinning.

Around 50 people from Penzberg wanted to take part in the trip, including children and young people.

The majority had booked a flight, the rest wanted to go on the almost 1,400-kilometer journey by motorhome and car.

The French wanted the Penzbergers to appear in traditional costumes and perform a folk dance on Saturday.

The Penzberg chanson duo "Ça touche" had specially rehearsed a song.

And a traditional costume gift for the mayor of Langon was also taken care of.

Corona: Incidence in the Gironde department too high for Langon travel

Nothing comes of the visit now. The city of Penzberg canceled the Langon trip from August 25th to 30th. The decision was made over the weekend. The reason, according to Nathalie Eber, assistant to the mayor who helped organize the trip, is that the seven-day incidence in the Gironde department, where the city of Langon is located, had risen to 283 (the incidence fell slightly again by Monday). In almost all cases, it is an infection with the more easily transmitted Delta variant of the coronavirus. The risk is too high, says Eber. Especially since many children and adolescents should go along, some younger than twelve years who are not vaccinated. Therefore, Mayor Stefan Korpan decided - he himself wanted to travel to the twin city in France with his family for the first time - to refuse.

The trip should be made up for next summer

According to Eber, the trip was not canceled entirely, but postponed.

It should now be made up for in June 2022.

The French hosts are of course “extremely sad,” she says.

But they immediately talked about postponing the trip to next year.

Perhaps then at least part of the program can be taken over.

The town twinning was sealed in 1981

The town twinning between Penzberg and Langon was sealed in 1981 by the then mayors Kurt Wessner and Pierre Lagorce with the signature of the partnership agreement. The last visit to Langon so far took place in May 2018. At that time the Penzbergers had a maypole in their luggage, which the Young Knights Association set up in the Parc des Vergers. However, this was not planned this year anyway.
