Citizen participation goes into the next round.

“Everything is still open about the design,” says town hall chief Klaus Heilinglechner.

Wolfratshausen - What's next with Markstrasse?

So far, the drafts from the public participation process have been rather rough ideas.

In the coming weeks, they should be concretized: It is the citizens' turn again.

In a press conference on Monday, Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner, City Manager Dr.

Stefan Werner and the manager of the town hall, Kirsten Vogler, take the next steps to upgrade the old town.

The town hall chief emphasized: "In terms of the design, everything is actually still open."

Digital and in presence: everyone can contribute

Anyone can get involved in this process, as the trio emphasized.

There are two ways of doing this: A digital exhibition starts on September 1st.

Until September 23, Wolfratshauser and foreigners can view the current planning status and compare the proposals of the planning office with the original objectives of public participation.

Anyone who registers on the platform can publish their own ideas, comments and remarks on previous planning.

The way to the new old town is still long

A face-to-face event will take place on Tuesday, October 5th, in the Loisachhalle. Plans and visualizations are exhibited here, and there is information from architects and mayors. "This gives the citizens the opportunity to have a say in almost all parts of the planning," emphasized Heilinglechner. The city council has only already tied down the positioning of crossing aids in the old town. However, there are still no concrete decisions on the width of the sidewalks and lanes, swiveling, green spaces and the final design of the old town. Based on the feedback in the coming weeks, the city council should take a decision to update the plans. The process is still long. City manager Dr. Stefan Werner explained it like this: “A preliminary draft should emerge from the preliminary draft.“This would be the basis for the final planning -“ the draft plan ”. When this will be presented is unclear: "The whole thing is a very complex process that needs to be coordinated," said the city manager. Further planning would be carried out “step by step”. Werner expressed the hope that the city council could make a decision this year.

Over 600 people have already participated

Heilinglechner hopes for a lively participation: "The more feedback we receive, the better the result." Kirsten Vogler spoke of an "opportunity for people to help shape the city in which they live".

The citizen participation process began in November 2018. By April 2019, according to the city, more than 600 people took part in the online discussion.

Young Wolfratshausers contributed their ideas in the course of school and youth projects.

Some 200 citizens participated in four events and workshops lasting several hours.

The city council received plan sketches with the summarized results.

The committee made a decision in principle to use these sketches as a basis for further planning and to provide funds for implementation.

The municipality commissioned the office “mahl gebhard konzepte” (mgk) with the preparation of a preliminary draft, which was presented to the city council a few weeks ago.

A parliamentary group opposes the plans

The panel voted in favor of the plans by a large majority.

There was criticism from the faction of the Wolfratshauser List, which, among other things, struggles with the drainage situation (see info box).

The elimination of parking spaces directly on Markstrasse triggered a mixed response from dealers.

Heilinglechner: "With a project like this there will always be different opinions that we have to weigh up." After the first drafts had been presented, he had received "only positive feedback on the design" from the citizens.

It is important to him that the Wolfratshauser's concerns are heard: "Nothing is imposed from above."

Drainage is renewed

It has not only been known since the capricious weather of this summer: In the case of heavy rain, water threatens to flow into the buildings on the Upper and Lower Market. With the planned lowering of the curbs to three centimeters in the central area, residents fear that this problem could become even greater. Town hall chief Klaus Heilinglechner announced in the press conference on Monday that a renewal of the drainage system is imminent - regardless of the results of the public participation process. "It definitely has to be retrofitted," emphasized the mayor. The current infrastructure is "no longer sufficiently functional". Especially with regard to future extreme weather conditions “it cannot stay that way”. Exactly how the retrofitting takes place is also related to the redesign of the old town - the two measures are to be planned together.
