Pete Buttigieg, the US Secretary of Transportation, and her husband Chasten have become new parents, the politician announced Tuesday.
"For some time, Chasten and I have wanted to grow our family. We are delighted to share that we have become parents!" Pete Buttigieg wrote in a tweet.
"The process is not over yet and we are grateful for the love, support and respect for our privacy that has been offered to us. We can't wait to share any more soon," added Buttigieg, the first member of the LGBTQ community to be confirmed. as cabinet secretary for the Senate.
Pete and Chasten Buttigieg, who have been married since 2018, have been trying to adopt for a year,

The couple had been "going through home studies and parenting workshops, writing descriptions of their family values and ideal weekends."
"They are on lists that would allow them to receive a baby that has been abandoned or delivered with very little notice, and through longer processes that would allow an expectant mother to choose them in advance (although she would not know their identities). In close proximity, in multiple occasions, to buy baby items and discuss names, "the newspaper said of the Buttigieg.
Chasten Buttigieg, author and former teacher, told the
Post
that in early summer the couple came close to adopting after he received a call "about a biological mother who was in labor and wanted to put her baby up for adoption."

As they made plans to travel to the state where the baby was being born, he told the newspaper, they received another call informing them that the mother "had changed her mind."
The couple received a great deal of support and well wishes Tuesday, including from First Lady Jill Biden, who shared the secretary's tweet adding, "Congratulations to you and @Chasten! Welcome to parenthood!"
Home Secretary Deb Haaland also welcomed the news in a tweet, writing: "Being a father has been one of the great joys of my life. Congratulations to you and Chasten on this excellent news!"
And Lis Smith, who served as Pete Buttigieg's chief communications adviser during his 2020 Democratic presidential bid, also applauded the announcement by her former boss's family, writing in her own tweet: "They'll be the best dads."
