Torch: Strong vs. Poland, Weak vs. Western Europe Israel today

2021-08-17T13:36:38.822Z

The Foreign Minister's insistence on Poland is important, but his silence in the face of Western European governments, funded by extremist organizations, is puzzling. • To fight anti-Semitism, consistency must be demonstrated

There is no dispute that the war on anti-Semitism is one of the most important tasks of the State of Israel since its establishment.

It is therefore to be welcomed that Foreign Minister Yair Lapid has taken a firm stand against the Polish Property Law, which restricts property claims of Holocaust survivors.

However, his silence is most puzzling in light of the consistent and ongoing funding of extremist organizations funded by Western European governments and the lack of response to the neo-Nazi demonstration that took place in the village of Beta on Saturday night.

To really fight anti-Semitism, it is not enough to align with Western Europe versus Eastern Europe in order to score points. To prove consistency between his harsh response to Polish law and to believe him that his fight against anti-Semitism is real, we would expect to see Lapid act firmly and assertively towards Western European governments as well.

While the Polish government passed the law that harms the memory of Holocaust victims, Western European governments have for several years transferred tens of millions of shekels a year to organizations that work and seek, day and night, to deny the existence of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state. Among the organizations that benefit from European government budgets are organizations that lead the delegitimization and demonization against Israel. Those same organizations want to convince the world that Israel is committing "war crimes", such as Breaking the Silence and B'Tselem, the "Who Gains" organization, which promotes the boycott of Israeli industry in the world; The "HaMoked" and the "Association for Civil Rights" organizations, which provide a legal envelope for terrorists or families of terrorists; The organizations of Adalah, the Mossawa Center and Mada al-Carmel, which have issued statements and documents denying the existence of the State of Israel as a Jewish state, and the list goes on.

In total, there are at least 41 bodies involved in blackening the face of the State of Israel, which have received over NIS 400 million (!) From European governments and the European Union in the last decade.

The transfer of funds to these organizations by the prominent European governments, including Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Norway and the United Kingdom, is carried out directly by the embassies of the countries in Israel or through representatives or funds based in Ramallah, by their foreign ministries and sometimes by funds and organizations. From those governments.

In other words, governments directly fund activities that seek to eliminate the State of Israel.

Minister Lapid knows the activity, the funding and therefore his silence is even more disturbing.

In his speech at the conference of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, in which he expanded the concept of anti-Semitism almost to infinity, Lapid chose not to mention the funding for organizations working against the State of Israel.

Those who speak highly of anti-Semitism are expected to take a hard line not only against Poland but also against those who claim that the State of Israel shares the same values.

To act against the despicable law of the Polish government is important, but we also want to see you strong and determined against governments that today fund those who want to continue what the Germans have not finished.

Will the Foreign Minister call on the Israeli ambassador to Germany to return to Israel until Germany stops funding the above-mentioned organizations?

time will tell.

Meanwhile, in his conduct, the minister is turning anti-Semitism into a political issue.

It is to be regretted and it is hoped that it will act to the same extent whenever a country in the world behaves antisemitically towards the State of Israel.
