Today, Uzbekistan confirmed its determination to firmly and resolutely confront any attempts to violate its borders.
"Uzbekistan is in contact with members of the Taliban movement regarding border protection and efforts to maintain calm on the Uzbek border with Afghanistan," the TASS news agency quoted the Uzbek Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement.
"We have also firmly declared that attempts to violate state borders will be met with a harsh response," she added, noting that the Uzbek diplomatic missions in Kabul and Mazar-i-Sharif are still continuing their work normally.
The Uzbek Ministry of Defense announced yesterday that the air defense forces in the Sherabad district of Surkhondario state thwarted an attempt by an Afghan military plane to illegally cross the Uzbek air border, and Uzbek forces arrested 84 Afghan soldiers who tried to flee to Uzbekistan to escape the Taliban movement that took control of the country.
The developments of events in Afghanistan accelerated with the entry of the Taliban movement, the capital, Kabul, yesterday, and its control of most government institutions, and the attempt of dozens of Afghan soldiers to flee to neighboring countries.
