While within the "Boca World" many names are speculated to succeed Russo, the "Xeneize" has fewer and fewer roads to access the next Copa Libertadores.

While it has 4 units in the local tournament, and in the annual table it is 8 points behind the last classified to the Libertadores, Boca still has the possibility of entering the next great continental competition through the Argentine Cup.

The Ribera club is classified for the next South American Cup, this being a place that it obtained due to its campaign in the last Maradona Cup.

As for the Argentine Cup, Boca reached the quarterfinals after beating River in the round of 16, and now they must face Patronato to find a place among the 4 best in the competition.

This is not the only way that Boca has thinking about the Copa Libertadores 2022, since although a "short" tournament is being played, the "Xeneize" can still overcome the difference of 8 points that it maintains with Vélez, the last classified to the Liberators.

Boca's background in Copa Sudamericana

The "Xeneize" is a regular in the Copa Libertadores, and

to remember the last year in which Boca did not qualify for the highest continental competition, we should go back to 2017

, the year in which those from La Ribera did not appear in any international competition.

As for the South American Cup, Boca's last participation dates from 2014, a season in which under the command of Rodolfo Arruabarrena, the team fell in the semifinals against River de Gallardo.

Boca celebrates its consecration in the 2004 South American Cup, under the command of Jorge "Chino" Benítez.

This was not Boca's only participation in the South American, since the "Xeneize" achieved a two-time championship after being crowned in 2004 and 2005, consecutively and under the leadership of Jorge Benítez and Alfio Basile.

With these two coronations, Boca is one of the only two teams that the Sudamericana won more than once, sharing this recognition with Independiente.
