The demolition and earthworks on the MD site in Dachau will be suspended until the beginning of September.

Until then, the Karl company workers who do the heavy lifting on the site will go on vacation.

The excavators are lined up in a parade on the site so that Dachau families and interested citizens can view the large device with which the demolition and earthworks are carried out.

Dachau

- According to a press release from Isaria München Projektentwicklungs GmbH, which owns the MD site, the excavator show can be viewed at the information tower in Ostenstrasse until the beginning of September.

The area around the information tower will be open from Wednesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“The fact that work on the site will be suspended until the beginning of September is certainly a small relief for the neighboring residents. We know that the necessary demolition work is a burden for our neighbors. We try to reduce the inconvenience as much as possible with a water spray system to reduce dust and a tire washing system that wash the dirt off the trucks before they leave the premises. Nevertheless, there is of course noise and dirt. We ask for your understanding and thank you for the great patience that the residents have shown so far. I think much of the work will be done by the end of the year. However, the renovation of the Mühlbach is still to come in the coming year ”, says David Christmann, managing director of Isaria, who is developing the project site of the former paper mill in cooperation with the property owner Deutsche Wohnen.

The previously underground Mühlbach can be converted into an above-ground river with promenades for local recreation as part of the development of the district (we reported).

This would make the river in the section of the MD site accessible to the public for the first time in over 100 years.

Among other things, this was a proposal from the public participation process of the planning workshop “Freiraum im Fokus” from 2015 and 2016.

Before the course of the river can be renatured, the Mühlbach must be diverted into a provisional stream bed in the coming year.

The superstructure over the river will then be demolished and the river bed rehabilitated.

Only then does the Mühlbach return to its original bed.

By the way: In the newly emerging Mühlbachviertel, around 600,000 tons of soil have been moved on an area of 1.4 hectares to be rehabilitated. That is roughly the weight of 60,000 elephants. Around 20 percent of the soil mass is processed on the site and recycled directly on site. 80 percent of the material is also processed and used outside the site, for example as recycled concrete that is used on other construction sites.
