The disaster in Haiti: The death toll from the earthquake that hit the city last Saturday continues to rise and stood this morning (Wednesday) at 1,941.
Meanwhile, survivors of the 7.2-magnitude earthquake took refuge after receiving shelter at the many medical centers collapsing under the load.
Rescue efforts continue after a tropical storm this week rained and flooded many streets and areas in the Caribbean.
The fear is that the large amount of water that has accumulated will lead to landslides and exacerbate the humanitarian crisis.
The quake caused damage in large hospitals while medical staff set up tents outside to house the hospitalized, including children and the elderly.
More than 6,900 wounded to varying degrees were evacuated from the rubble and tens of thousands of homes were destroyed and damaged.
Local hospitals have told CNN they are suffering from an overload and a shortage of medical supplies.
Photos from Haiti show the wounded lying on hospital beds outside the hospitals due to lack of space.
In addition, factories were vandalized and major roads were blocked, making it difficult to flow vital supplies to areas affected by the quake.
Various teams are now working to rehabilitate the roads between the cities, increasing the pace of searches before the storm arrives.
