Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett was invited Wednesday (August 18) to pay an official visit to Egypt by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, according to a statement from his office.

The invitation was conveyed by Egyptian Intelligence boss Abbas Kamel, who met Naftali Bennett in Jerusalem on Wednesday.

", a Palestinian enclave in northeastern Egypt, according to the statement.
Egypt, mediator of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict
The ceasefire established on May 21 between Israel and Hamas, in power in Gaza, after 11 days of a lightning war has been negotiated by Egypt.
Cairo maintains both relations with the Hebrew state and the Palestinian Islamist movement.
Bound since 1979 by a peace treaty with Israel, Egypt is the traditional mediator between Palestinians and Israelis.
It has also worked to bring Palestinian factions together, hosting on its soil several meetings between the two main rival formations, Fatah and Hamas.
