The administration and the municipal council of the municipality of Kirchdorf were not inactive despite the pandemic.
A look at the past year and a half.
Kirchdorf
- The mayor of Kirchdorf, Uwe Gerlsbeck (CSU), has a clear opinion: “It's about the matter, not about the political streak.” Gerlsbeck talked to the FT about those projects that are successful despite the pandemic were brought on the way.
Actually, Gerlsbeck would have liked to hold a citizens' meeting to bring the Kirchdorfer up to date. However, the Delta variant got in the way here. According to Gerlsbeck, you simply shouldn't take the risk. But despite all the adversities of the corona pandemic, a lot has happened in the municipality: For example, the traffic lights at the school, the road renewal in Helfenbrunn or the completed cycle path. What has changed since the new committee, however: In the past, according to Gerlsbeck, it was a goal-oriented cooperation without the submission of numerous applications.
The problem: Due to the pandemic, many things were simply not possible, for example a timely retreat to bring the new councils up to date - but also to explain what has been in a planning phase for years.
"It is difficult for everyone involved," explained Gerlsbeck, because basically the work of the municipal council is still not in regular operation.
But one thing is very clear to him: party requests are not important in the committee - after all, there were also many open lists in the election.
“I am a CSU man, but here I am only the mayor.” In addition, the municipal council is also about completely different things like in the state and federal parliaments, in which strong opposition would play a role.
Air filter systems
According to Gerlsbeck, common sense is the most important thing when it comes to the major challenges in order to be able to make quick and adequate decisions - as with the most recent question about air filter systems for schools and daycare centers.
Kirchdorf does not get involved in large currents of opinion here and purchases 23 devices to ensure classroom teaching.
Assisted living
And Gerlsbeck is proud of that too: In Nörting, a home for assisted living will be built by a private sponsor.
Because even in Kirchdorf day care is a huge topic for the near future.
Of course, building is also on the mayor's list per se.
"The council was always in favor of redensification in the interior," stressed Gerlsbeck - and further: "You have to move with the times, but also look at a healthy structural development." Which takes a lot of time, but little seen by the public will: Providing decent support to builders is at times a very high effort.
And then he could not always come to the council with "water level reports", for example in the case of the large residential complex in Helfenbrunn for young families.
Sewer system
What is just as little seen by the citizens, but is fundamentally important: the frequent control and rehabilitation of the local sewer system.
“These are major municipal tasks that just run in the background.” But they are also important for environmental protection - such as the constant focus on the water law permit.
Here, too, he and his employees have always worked extremely proactively, also to protect citizens from exploding costs.
Many successes
The list of Kirchdorfer's successes is long: the town hall will be barrier-free, the fire brigades have been brought up to date, so that Nörting is well equipped for possible flood protection.
A first responder unit established two years ago is often in front of the rescue service to provide first aid.
"I have the greatest respect for it," emphasizes Gerlsbeck.

Gerlsbeck also wants to thank the Helfenbrunners for their great understanding, because their village street is currently being completely renovated in a major project, for which Kirchdorf has invested around three million euros. The municipality is benefiting from the merger with ILE-Ampertal, which also supports the road project: "We have great positive benefits from this connection - not only because I am the board member." presumably at some point the rooms for more and more students will run out.
A municipality has to face the influx of people who want to live in the country - but the need is still well covered, even for the children's home.
Society, according to Gerlsbeck, is changing and it has to be reacted to with far-sightedness, which is one of the reasons why there will be more crèche groups in the coming year.
He also reacted to possible process improvements in the administration with an external organizational investigation.
"We have very open communication in-house anyway," says Gerlsbeck.
In order to make the process even smoother, there has recently been a weekly jour fix appointment and an additional treasurer position.
“We have to keep an eye on the big picture,” explains Gerlsbeck.
More safety
The best example here: The tiresome subject of the bike path, which in parts has turned into a mogul slope.
It is time to simply name this cycle path for what it is, namely a route that is safer for cyclists.
But apparently, says Mayor Uwe Gerlsbeck, these Kirchdorf waves in the asphalt were a world event - "from New York to Moscow".
