The Lattakia Directorate of Agriculture estimated the areas planted with pear trees in the governorate at about 290 hectares, with 152,123 fruitful trees, including 119,221 trees, while the initial production reached 2,751 tons in the areas of Lattakia, Al Haffa, Jableh and Qardaha.

Engineer Haitham Deeb, Head of the Planning and International Cooperation Department at the Directorate of Agriculture, stated to the SANA Economic Bulletin that the pear tree has different varieties and is planted at a height above 487 meters in a cold climate, but the flexibility and adaptability of the pear tree in general made it grow in different environments and it is very compatible with the climate of the Syrian coast Generally.

On the conditions and appropriate climate for the cultivation of the pear tree, Engineer Qais Ghazal, Head of the Department of Fruitful Trees in the Directorate, explained that the pear is planted in mid-March in sunny land, and the varieties of pear trees thrive in cold and humid climates, and the cold hours required by the tree range from 150 hours to 1500, depending on the type and variety. .

Regarding the economic feasibility of growing pears in Lattakia, Engineer Mays Shehadeh, head of the Department of Economics and Agricultural Marketing in the Directorate, explained that the price of pears ranged during this season between 1000 and 2500 in Al-Hal market, and marketing is carried out during the months of May, June, July and August, with quantities that started with half a ton per day at the beginning of the season and exceeded 5 tons per day during July, and marketing continues at a good pace during the current month, while the cost of producing one kilo of pears in the current season is 940 pounds, and the selling price of a pear plant for farmers was 650 pounds last season.

The Directorate of Agriculture in Lattakia provides seedlings in its nurseries at reduced prices. It also provides the necessary instructions to farmers on ways to combat pests and diseases that affect the pear tree, such as the apple stem borer, scab, tiger pear, and others.
