"Yes, those are clear figures": Markus Söder reacts tellingly to current survey data.

He criticizes the Laschet election campaign - and puts forward a sensitive Greens thesis.

Berlin / Munich - Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet (CDU) goes into the hot phase of the election campaign - this seems to be indirectly confirmed by the latest Sunday questions. Above all, however, the surveys on the preference of Germans to be chancellor show it again and again. Most recently, the Insa Institute determined for

Bild am Sonntag

: 62.8 percent of Union sympathizers would prefer a change. From Laschet to Markus Söder.

After bitter internal criticism, Laschet now wants to go on the offensive - but how does the CSU boss react?

Söder replied tellingly to relevant questions in a talk in the tabloid on Sunday evening.

The Bavarian credibly referred a last-minute swap in the interview column to the realm of fables.

But a few minor taunts could also be heard months after the hotly contested chancellor candidate race in April.

At the same time, Söder assumed that the Greens had a rather unorthodox coalition plan.

Söder instead of Laschet?

CSU boss comments on the candidate change request - and delivers teasing

“I made an offer at a time when the offer would have made sense.

And really to shape an election campaign as I would have imagined, ”said Söder in the talk“ Bild live ”.

This statement is also to be understood against the background of the complaints for a "sleeping car election campaign" by Laschet - which meanwhile no longer only come from Söder himself.

When asked about the specific survey figures, Söder paused briefly.

"Yes, those are clear figures, but what should I say now - the fair has actually already been over," he explained.

The ballot papers were printed and the lists for the Bundestag election laid down.

"Nothing moves anymore, that doesn't make any sense", added Söder: "A few months ago Wolfgang Schäuble and others should have got involved."

At the same time, he admitted that he was flattered by the numbers or by the audience's questions about a change of chancellor candidate.

“From the point of view of some citizens, I understand the question”, he explained - at the same time he was pleased with the wish “also very personally”.

Nevertheless, he will also be personally involved in the election campaign.

Söder emphasized that he was counting on a Chancellor Laschet.

And added with a view to the candidate freestyle: "Personally, I am fine with it."

Greens and Annalena Baerbock: Söder submits a new chancellor plan - "just to slow down the Union"

Söder tried to put a verbal damper on the competition in the form of the Greens and her candidate for Chancellor Annalena Baerbock: "I think Annalena Baerbock has beaten a bit and the Greens have returned to a normal level in the polls," he explained in the talk. The likelihood of a government under the leadership of the Greens is now very low.

Söder even suspected that the Greens could consciously sacrifice Baerbock's Chancellery plans in order to bring about a change of power in the federal government.

According to his opinion, poll favorite Olaf Scholz (SPD) could benefit.

He suspected that "the Greens are ready, just to slow down the Union, ultimately to leave the Chancellor to the SPD," warned Söder.

According to the current status, a traffic light coalition or a red-red-green alliance cannot be ruled out.

In view of this, the CSU boss also had one last indirect reprimand for Laschet and the CDU: "You can't say that everything is going perfectly."

A prominent politician of the Eastern CDU had recently described the survey gap between Söder and Laschet as “the biggest problem” in the election campaign.
