Women in the world of journalism, human rights, literature and cinema, among other sectors, have made an international call for Afghanistan to keep the borders open to all those who need to leave, especially women, those most affected by the arrival of the Taliban.

The manifesto asks countries to admit repatriation flights loaded with Afghans "in imminent danger, whether or not they have been in the service of states or institutions that the Taliban consider enemies."

Recognized women such as Soledad Gallego-Díaz, former director of EL PAÍS;

Gabriela Cañas, president of the Spanish news agency EFE;

Svetlana Alexievichy, Nobel Prize in Literature;

o Lydia Cacho, writer and journalist from Mexico are some of the figures who sign the document.

The call for international cooperation calls on all countries to host Afghan refugees and a joint effort to keep borders open so that those seeking to flee the Taliban regime have a chance, especially women.

“We, women around the world, aware that our demand for equality is inseparable from the freedom and dignity of the people who are now seriously and brutally threatened in Afghanistan, and aware, also, that the threats directed against Afghan women for the simple fact of being women add an intolerable cruelty and additional to that suffered by Afghans of any condition, we make an urgent appeal ", reads the document.

The first petition demands that the open borders of Afghanistan be kept so that no one is left behind in the mass exodus motivated by the arrival of the Taliban regime, a “fanatical power imposed by force of arms”. An effort is also called for to carry out the acceptance of flights loaded with Afghans and the reception of refugees whether or not they have been working as international aid workers. Lastly, a special mention is made of Afghan women for their vulnerability and the need for preferential attention, “whether they have performed professional tasks prohibited by the Taliban, attended schools and universities, led their lives outside of fanatical morality or any other reasons ”.

Women from all over Latin America - from Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Nicaragua or Venezuela - to Belarus, the United States or Austria, have joined their voices in this international claim. The document is signed by journalists, writers, producers, deputies, lawyers and lawyers for women's rights. Among them are - in addition to the aforementioned Gallego-Díaz, Cañas, Alexievichy and Cacho - Maruja Torres, chronicler of Spain; Rosa Montero, Spanish journalist; Nélida Piñón, writer and Brazilian Princess of Asturias Award; Elena Poniatowska, writer awarded with the Cervantes Prize; Gioconda Belli, Nicaraguan writer; Donna León, writer from the USA; o Carmen Aristegui, journalist from Mexico.
