Abu Dhabi-Sana

The fugitive Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said today that he was forced to flee the country and that what happened was a conspiracy against him without pointing the finger of accusation to any party and only saying that he did not want to be the cause of bloodshed.

On his Facebook page, Ghani denied reports that he had escaped with huge sums of money, and said that he had reached the United Arab Emirates "with empty hands."

He said that he left "after being informed by his guards that a conspiracy was being hatched against him and that a coup d'état had taken place against him."

"The Taliban promised us that they would not enter the capital, but they were around the presidential palace ahead of time and my guards told me that there was a coup," Ghani said, explaining that he was forced out of the capital and that he responded to prevent bloodshed.

He said he is "returning in the near future" and is holding "consultations with others until the return is completed in order to achieve justice for the Afghans."

It is noteworthy that the Taliban announced its entry into several neighborhoods in the Afghan capital, Kabul, and its control of the presidential palace, hours after President Ashraf Ghani left the country.

These rapid developments come after the US President's decision to withdraw from Afghanistan by next September to end the two-decade-long occupation and invasion of this country that claimed tens of thousands of victims and left massive destruction under the pretext of fighting terrorism.
