The United Nations announced today that it has begun moving up to 100 of its international staff out of Afghanistan to work from Kazakhstan after the Taliban movement took control of the Afghan capital, Kabul, and the entire country.
"This is a temporary measure designed to enable the United Nations to continue providing assistance to the Afghan people with minimal disruption, while at the same time trying to reduce the risk of endangering UN staff," a spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, was quoted as saying by Reuters.
It is noteworthy that the United Nations has about 300 international staff and 3,000 local staff in Afghanistan.
