Trappes: the Council of State cancels the municipal election

The voters of Trappes will have to go to the polls again to elect their mayor. The Council of State canceled the election on Wednesday


In Trappes, the mayor's chair is now vacant.

The Council of State canceled the 2020 municipal election on Wednesday, following the conclusions of the public rapporteur.

The legal battle between Ali Rabeh, mayor (Generation. S) of the city, and Othman Nasrou, vice-president (Libres!) Of the regional council and elected opposition has been definitively settled by the highest administrative court.

Unlike the Administrative Court of Versailles, the Council of State did not declare Ali Rabeh ineligible.

The two rivals, who posted only 161 votes away from the municipal elections of June 2020, immediately reacted to the decision.

"The Council of State validates my campaign accounts and therefore recognizes my good faith", welcomes Ali Rabeh.

The former mayor will thus be reimbursed for his 35,000 euros in campaign accounts.

As a reminder, Ali Rabeh is accused of major breaches of the rules of the electoral code.

During the three months preceding the election, the one who was both candidate and president of the Cœur de Trappes association carried out charitable actions.

Distribution of masks, food packages, educational kits for children… Some of these masks were accompanied by a photo of the candidate.

However, these actions were not declared in his campaign account.

Ali Rabeh candidate for re-election

He took the opportunity to officially announce his candidacy for the new municipal elections which should take place in three months maximum.

"Othman Nasrou will not have the courage to face the voters," he tackles.

Inflated by his score in the departmental elections in his city, Ali Rabeh says he is sure to win and even to expand his majority.

Contacted, Othman Nasrou, considers that “Ali Rabeh's cheating has been definitively recognized by the courts”.

The elected opposition leader in Trappes has accused his opponent of "fueling hatred and divisions, of politicizing municipal action and of adding fuel to the fire" for a year.

On his candidacy for the elections, Othman Nasrou calls today to bring together "all the goodwill, to make this change successful".

“If I think I am in a position to rally widely at Trappes, then I will be a candidate.

"

As in Chevreuse, while awaiting the holding of new elections, a special delegation will be appointed by the prefect of Yvelines, Jean-Jacques Brot, to manage current affairs.

Installed within eight days, this delegation will have to organize the ballot within three months.
