A fatal work injury occurred in Western District today (18th). Two tree repairers climbed onto the lift platform to trim trees this morning. The crane arm of the lift platform suddenly broke, resulting in a tragedy of one death and one injury.
It is known that both of them were technicians in the Tree Section of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. The 55-year-old female technician who died was only transferred to the "Hong Kong West Tree Section" in recent years. In the past, she had toiled and had three children. Unexpectedly, an accident broke up a good family.
The three government departments including the Leisure and Cultural Services Department expressed their deep condolences for the death of the female technicians and extended condolences to their families.
At about 9 am this morning, two staff of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department boarded the elevator platform to trim the trees at the junction of Water Street and Third Street in Western District.
During the period, the jib was suspected to be broken by mechanical failure, and the two staff members plunged 4 meters from a height of about 7 meters with the lifting platform, violently shaking the engineering body.
A 55-year-old female worker surnamed Zeng was once trapped in the lift platform and in the air. She fell into a coma and was rescued by the fire. She was sent to hospital and died.
Another 46-year-old employee surnamed Chen also suffered a rib fracture and was sent to hospital for treatment.
According to sources, both of them are tree staff members of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, who are directly hired by the Department and belong to the civil service establishment.
Among them, the deceased woman has been employed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department for more than 10 years. In recent years, she has been transferred to the Hong Kong West Tree Group to work, including pruning trees.
