"Black Rain" heavy rain falls in the northern New Territories

Over the past few hours, Kowloon, Lantau Island and Yuen Long recorded more than 20 millimetres of rainfall. Around noon, the rainfall in the northern part of the New Territories was strong, and the rainfall in San Tin and Ngau Tam Mei exceeded 90 millimetres.


However, affected by the ridge of subtropical high pressure, the Observatory predicts that the weather will be extremely hot for 5 consecutive days. On Saturdays and Sundays (21 and 22), the temperature will reach 34 degrees Celsius, and Ta Kwu Ling, Sheung Shui and Shek Kong may reach 36 degrees, bringing a hot weekend.

A broad trough of low pressure will bring showers in the middle to late next week. The Observatory expects a few showers from next Thursday (26th) and a slight drop in temperature next weekend. The highest temperature in the city will drop to 31 degrees.

Special report on flooding in northern New Territories takes effect at noon

In the past hour, more than 90 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in the area, that is, black torrential rain.

The hot weather will last until next Tuesday from tomorrow

The subtropical ridge of high pressure will cover southeastern China in the next few days. The area is generally sunny and the weather continues to be extremely hot.

The Observatory predicts that the weather will be very hot from tomorrow, and the weekend will not be rainy. The urban area will see a high of 34 degrees. The hot weather will continue until next Tuesday (24th). There will be showers in some areas that day.

The Observatory predicts that a broad trough of low pressure will bring showers to the northern part of the South China Sea and the coast of Guangdong in the middle to late next week. From Wednesday (25th) onwards, there will be no hot weather, but there will still be sunshine during part of the time, and there will be showers in some areas. There were a few showers, and the temperature dropped slightly next weekend, and the highest temperature in the urban area dropped slightly to 31 degrees.
