German local staff report problems at Kabul Airport.
Kabul - After the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, the USA, Germany and their allies tried to evacuate their Afghan aid workers and their own citizens. However, the evacuation turned out to be difficult: The local helpers from German organizations have difficulties getting to the evacuation flights at the airport in the capital Kabul. This is what local staff reported to the German Press Agency on Thursday (August 19, 2021). The roads to the airport are congested and partly impassable. US soldiers would not let them in at the entrances.
"The American soldiers only let their people through," reports one person.
German representatives were said to have not been at the entrance to Kabul airport at the time the local staff was called to the airport.
Another man says he tried to enter the airport for six hours.
A US soldier reportedly refused to let the person in.
First it must be checked whether the man is really a helper of the Germans.
Shots were fired in the air again and again.
Tear gas was also used to push back the crowd.

There are several entrances to Kabul Airport.
Many people who want to flee from the Taliban are in the civilian part in the south of the airport area, from where commercial flights are usually handled.
However, these are currently discontinued.
Another entrance is located one kilometer to the east.
The entrance to the military part is in the north.
Thousands of people are waiting around all entrances and the blast protection walls around the airport site to get onto the site.
More people try to somehow create it themselves.
They have wanted to leave Afghanistan since the defeat of the Afghan army by the Islamist terrorist militia Taliban.

The Defense Ministry reports that more than 900 people have already been brought from Afghanistan on evacuation flights by the Bundeswehr.
