Today, the “Societe” restaurant and cafe opened in Tishreen Park, in which more than twenty young men and women with Down syndrome work permanently, as the first restaurant of this kind in Syria.
Kholoud Ragab, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Roots Association, the entity supervising the restaurant, indicated in a statement to SANA that the youth work under the supervision of the association’s volunteers according to the “shiftat” shift system, and a number of people who wish to work, whether they have Down syndrome or any other disability, will be trained to facilitate their entry into the labor market. .
Rajab pointed out that the work of those with Down syndrome achieves their integration into society, breaks the stereotype of people with disabilities, introduces their skills, and secures a stable income for them from the proceeds of the project, noting that this also provides job opportunities for ten young professionals in the field of tourism and hospitality.
While attending the opening of the restaurant, Minister of Education Dr. Darem Tabbaa saw that this project is a distinct idea that shows the capabilities of these young people to work like other ordinary people, and it is important to encourage the patrons of the restaurant and the community for them to achieve actual integration into society.
A member of the Executive Office in Damascus Governorate, Faisal Sorour, pointed out that the governorate, based on its social responsibility in addition to its service responsibility, provided an area of Tishreen Park to be a place to implement the association's project, inviting visitors to Tishreen Park to support Societe Restaurant.
The employees of the café expressed their happiness at getting a job. In simple language, Elias Haddad, Reham Qattan, Muhannad Saleh and Nour Muhammad said that they are happy to work and accept the restaurant's guests with love and fulfill their requests, as they learned during the training.
The parents shared with their children the happiness of realizing the dream, as Huda Haddad pointed out that her son Elias getting a job opportunity was an idea and a hope that came true, while Maryam Jazayeri indicated that her daughter Raba after training and participating in work became more interactive with others and her entry into the labor market would change her life for the better.
And about his work with the beneficiaries of the Societe Benefit Project, Chef Jaafar Ismail, that he supervises the work of a number of them in the department of preparing drinks and juices, explaining that in addition to getting a job opportunity with them, he interacted with the project because it is a qualitative idea and supports people. All they have is love and must stand with them and encourage them.
