Mexico prepares for the hit of Hurricane Grace

At least 125 tourists have been evacuated from hotels and taken to shelters before the arrival of Hurricane Grace in eastern Mexico, said the governor of the state of Quintana Roo, Carlos Joaquín González.

At least 125 tourists have been evacuated from hotels and taken to shelters ahead of Hurricane Grace in eastern Mexico, Quintana Roo State Governor Carlos Joaquín González said Wednesday night.

Grace is expected to make landfall early Thursday in the eastern Yucatan Peninsula, just south of Cozumel, according to CNN's Weather Team.

"In Tulum, hotels have been evicted and tourists have been transferred to different hotel shelters. We have evacuated 125 people: 10 from Isla María Elena, 45 from Punta Herrero in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto and 70 from Punta Allen," González said. On twitter.

The local government has issued a red alert that represents the "greatest risk" for eight municipalities, including: Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Tulum, Solidaridad, Puerto Morelos, Benito Juárez, Lázaro Cárdenas, Isla Mujeres and Cozumel.

"The crossings from Cancun to Isla Mujeres were suspended; all ports are already closed to navigation. Waves of up to 4 meters high are expected," González said.

Work activities were suspended in the state of Quintana Roo and the ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages took effect at 5 pm local time on Wednesday in Solidaridad, Tulum, Cozumel and the Chunes area in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.

The government asked businesses to close temporarily, and people should be at home or in shelters starting at 8 pm local time.

The governor said Wednesday night that Hurricane Grace "slightly changed its trajectory to the south of Tulum", adding that "we are ready to receive it at dawn, and tomorrow we will be in communication to see the details of the passage of this hurricane by our state".
