Six children have been hospitalized in the past week, some in critical condition, with a complication of multisystem inflammatory syndrome that develops after coronary heart disease (PIMS).
The children are hospitalized in Sheba, Hillel Yaffe, Carmel, Soroka and Haemek hospitals.
Hillel Yaffe hospitalized a 4-year-old who had already been released and an 8-year-old, whose condition was severely defined and he was transferred to another hospital for pediatric intensive care.
Dr. Adi Klein, director of the children's ward at Hillel Yaffe, noted that "the 8-year-old was ill a month ago without symptoms, and this week he was hospitalized.
"Because of the extent of the illness, there is a fear that the phenomenon will get worse."
"This is a relatively large number of cases, and it has to do with the fact that there is a general increase in morbidity and because the children are not vaccinated," explains Dr. Galia Barkai, director of the infectious diseases unit in Sheba. At school last week and came with the complication.
It is important to remember that corona in children can pass very easily, but the complication that develops in its wake is very severe and such multi-systemic inflammation can be life-threatening. "
According to data from the Israeli Association of Pediatrics, as of last June, about 103 cases of such inflammation had been reported in children, and a 12-year-old girl from Bnei Brak even died from complications of the infection.
Multi-systemic inflammatory syndrome that develops after corona is manifested by symptoms of high fever, diarrhea and vomiting, redness of the conjunctiva, rash, myocarditis, low blood pressure and damage to other systems.
