Finally, the pending work to
extend the route of the Belgrano Sur train to the Constitución station
takes shape again.
In this way, the project initiated by the previous government is now reactivated by the Ministry of Transport with the first tasks in the historic Roca terminal.
The project foresees that the
line that crosses all of La Matanza and also touches the South of Morón and a sector of Merlo,
culminate its journey at a point in the City of Buenos Aires that is much more strategic than Parque Patricios, where it ended until 2018.
From Constitución, where the Roca branches currently arrive and depart, the passengers of the line will be able to easily connect with dozens of
buses and, more importantly, with the C subway line,
which goes from there to Retiro, crossing the entire downtown of Buenos Aires. .
In Constitución, precisely, is where the new work is currently being carried out.
"It has been progressing very fast. It is still not seen that much, but
when they start to mount the piles
everything
will be more attractive
. Now they carry out
measurement, engineering and architecture activities
", says Daniel Novoa, manager of the line.
The Ministry of Transport awarded the work of the viaduct so that the Belgrano Sur reaches from Pompeya to Constitución and the train that runs through La Matanza can reach the subway.
And he elaborates: "
The workshop is already installed in the Buenos Aires station
, of which we have already defined its characteristics. It will be built in a
similar
way
to Sáenz
, with the
central roads and the platforms on the sides
. One ascending and the other descending ".
The Belgrano Sur
reached the Buenos Aires station
, in Parque Patricios, but since the Pompeya station was renovated and raised, the terminal was temporarily there.
The section of viaduct to be built now is
5.6 kilometers long, between Calle Taborda and Plaza Constitución.
It foresees the elevation of the Buenos Aires station, closed since the Sáenz barrier was removed to advance with the first stage of the work, in May 2018.
This stage of work will require an
investment of 115 million dollars
.
It has a stipulated period of 21 months and when it is concluded, it will benefit the around
65 thousand passengers
who travel with the Belgrano Sur.
The Sáenz elevated station, in Pompeii, which since the end of 2019 is the temporary terminal of Belgrano Sur.
"We have
planned the entrance to Constitución
. We have yet to finish defining
what to do with some historical bumpers
that are there. Perhaps we will modify their locations," says the person in charge of the line.
"That would allow us to improve
platforms 1 and 2
, which are the ones we are entering today and that allow passengers
to automatically exit the plaza and enter the subways or the stops of the various bus lines
that exist" explains Novoa.
The
two branches of Belgrano Sur have 17 stations in the district of La Matanza
, the
Merlo Gómez
stop
in the municipality of Morón
, and the
Libertad and Marinos platforms of the General Belgrano Cruise, in Merlo
, at the end of its route in the direction of the West.
Once the work is completed, Transport
estimates that the number of passengers on the branch will grow.
At the height of Pompeya, the Belgrano Sur runs high on a viaduct that, now, will extend to Constitución.
It happens that today there are many residents of the southwest of Greater Buenos Aires who go
by bus to some of the Sarmiento railway stations
or use other means of transport to go to the City.
With the new possibility of going directly to Constitución, a step away from downtown Buenos Aires, it is expected that more will opt for Belgrano Sur.
The bet is that this will also have a beneficial effect on the always crowded Sarmiento train, which in this way would
decompress a bit.
In Laferrere they advanced with the hydraulic works prior to the construction of three tunnels under the Belgrano Sur tracks.
Currently, the viaduct is not the only improvement on the Belgrano Sur line.
In Laferrere
, construction work continues on three tunnels under the tracks, announced
at the end of 2020 and "in progress", for Ezeiza and Carcarañá streets, and that of Carlos Casares avenue.
In addition, this and other stations will be renewed in the two branches of the line.
