The eyes of the world will be on the Parc des Princes stadium when Lionel Messi makes his debut in Paris Saint-Germain.

The first shirt that the Argentine will wear with his new club will make history and

Michael Jordan

will unintentionally be part of it.

The PSG uniform has Jordan's Jumpman logo on his chest

.

Something weird when it comes to football kits.

The firm of the former basketball player that is linked to Nike has an agreement with the French club since 2018 and things came together for one of the most important formations in history to shine.

In fact, Messi's arrival at the club has already brought in a few million to the former NBA because every jersey sold that has the famous logo earns Jordan a five percent profit.

Nike's Jumpman logo.

What's behind the Jumpman?

The history of the logo is not without controversy

.

The image worn by

Air Jordan

sneakers, jackets, T-shirts and accessories

is a silhouette of Michael jumping through the air dressed as a basketball player.

So far, nothing weird.

The weaving and handling of the origin of the image raise some questions of rights

.

Jordan had just been hired by Nike in the early eighties - a historic customization deal - and already wore his famous sneakers every time he played.

The comparison between the two photos of the conflict.

The first is Rentmeester.

One day, Life magazine requested him for a photo production prior to the '84 Olympic Games and the athlete starred in some postcards wearing United States National Team clothing and Converse sneakers.

Photographer

Jacobus Rentmeester

asked him to jump in such a way that he looked spectacular.

He told him to do a Grand Jete de ballet and Jordan agreed: he jumped, spread his legs and stretched out his left arm with a ball in his hand.

An unorthodox move, different from what he used to do.

In '88, three years after launching the Air Jordan, Nike decided to renew its image and created the logo we know today.

The first sneakers to wear it were the Air Jordan III

.

The renovation was carried out by

Tinker Hartfield

, who was based on a sketch made by

Peter Moore

, another designer of the brand.

Jordan participated in a special photoshoot for Nike and did a similar jump to Life, but with

Chicago Bulls

clothing

and Airs.

The new logo came out of that production

.

The truth is that in 2015, Rentmeester appeared before the Justice and

claimed for his idea

.

He argued that when Nike hired another photographer for the shoot that gave birth to the Jumpman logo, the brand infringed on his copyright to a photograph he took of Jordan in 1984 striking a similar pose.

The dispute went to court but

Jacobus's claim was rejected

.

Some time later he would appeal, but the ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals would accompany Nike arguing that the image is "obviously inspired" but that there are differences in key elements.

The main differences they found with respect to the production of Life and Nike had to do with the

setting, lighting, clothing and that Jordan in Nike came out with both arms outstretched

.

"Copyright promotes the advancement of science and useful arts by encouraging others to freely build on the ideas and information conveyed by a work," Circuit Judge

Paul Watford

wrote

in the decision.

Jordan arrived in the French capital in 2016 and he did it to stay.

Michael opened an exclusive store that year and the following year his company already announced a collaboration with the French Basketball Federation.

Joining PSG in 2018, Michael wrote: "Jordan Brand and Paris Saint-Germain share a clear position on sport and style, so this collaboration comes naturally."

Messi will use 30.

PSG debuted their Jordan kit in the September 18, 2018 Champions League game against Liverpool.
