Ouagadougou-SANA
The death toll from the terrorist attack that targeted a military bus escorting civilians in northern Burkina Faso the day before yesterday rose to 80.
A previous toll indicated that 47 people, including 30 civilians and 14 soldiers, were killed in a terrorist attack carried out by militants.
"The terrorist attack led to the death of 65 civilians and 15 soldiers, after a gendarme succumbed to his wounds," Information Minister and Government Spokesperson Hussein Tambora was quoted by AFP as saying in a statement yesterday.
Since the beginning of last year, the intensity of attacks by armed terrorist groups has increased in the Sahel region of West Africa, especially in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, and most of the victims are civilians.
These attacks have displaced more than 1.14 million people in more than two years, while Burkina Faso, the impoverished country, also hosts about 20,000 refugees from neighboring Mali.
