After the holidays, there will be an uncomplicated opportunity for children and young people at Bavaria's schools to get vaccinated against corona.

Munich - The vaccination rate in Germany is stagnating *, the incidence is increasing *. Doctors, vaccination centers and ministers are constantly thinking of new ways in which citizens can easily get vaccinated against Corona *. Whether with a thank you bratwurst, a spontaneous vaccination offer at the train station or with free beer, those involved are now getting really creative. A few days ago the Ministry of Culture said there would be no vaccination campaign for students *, that seems to have changed now.

For children and adolescents aged 12 and over will soon have an uncomplicated way of getting vaccinated in Bavaria.

This emerges from a joint press release by the Bavarian ministers of education and health.

After the summer holidays, vaccination campaigns are planned in schools across Bavaria.

In cooperation with local vaccination centers, teams are to come to the educational institutions where both pupils aged 12 and over and their parents can be vaccinated.

However, this is not a nationwide campaign, explains a ministry spokeswoman.

Bavaria: Now corona vaccination campaign is planned in schools

Health Minister Holetschek (CSU) also emphasizes that this is done on a voluntary basis: "Whether in the gym, the cafeteria or in the vaccination bus on the school parking lot: it is crucial that the voluntary vaccination offer comes to the children and adolescents." According to figures from his ministry by Thursday (August 19) 25 percent of 12 to 17 year olds in Bavaria had already been vaccinated.

Vaccination campaign at Bavarian schools: "Attendance of face-to-face classes also possible without vaccination"

Minister of Education Michael Piazolo (Free Voters) nevertheless again draws attention to the possibility of being able to get his dose now in doctor's offices and in the vaccination center. “Vaccinations are essential to contain the pandemic. You can of course continue to attend classroom classes without a vaccination, ”added Piazolo. Health Minister Holetschek can only agree: "The corona vaccination remains voluntary and will not be a condition for participation in school life in the future either."

The reason for the vaccination offer seems to be the particularly high incidence among 15 to 19 year olds. According to Holetschek, this is currently well above the Bavarian average. For example, on August 18, there were 75 new infections per 100,000 people in this age group. The Bavarian Minister of Health said: “We won't get out of the pandemic with tests alone - and there are also more severe courses or long-covid among younger people. I therefore encourage parents, with a view to starting school, to think about whether they want their children to be vaccinated. ”
