The IHK warns of an increase in trade tax.

After the corona-related failures, the companies are dependent on having room to invest.

District

- The Corona crisis caused business tax revenues in the district to decline last year. The revenue shrank by over seven percent compared to the previous year to around 73.6 million euros - before deduction of the trade tax apportionment to the federal and state governments. This emerges from a press release from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) for Munich and Upper Bavaria. None of the district municipalities lowered or increased the business tax multiplier in 2020. On average, this was 349 percent in the district, according to an evaluation by the IHK.

In the whole of Upper Bavaria, the average assessment rate was unchanged at 335 percent. Six of 500 Upper Bavarian municipalities increased their assessment rates compared to 2019, only two municipalities lowered them. According to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bayrischzell, Fischbachau, Hausham, Irschenberg, Kreuth, Miesbach, Schliersee, Tegernsee and Valley are the front-runners in terms of the level of the business tax assessment rate, with 380 percent. At the other end of the scale is Bad Wiessee with 240 percent. A minimum lifting rate of 200 percent is required by law for the municipalities nationwide.

“The Corona crisis has placed an extremely heavy burden on companies in many industries.

Under no circumstances should the burgeoning recovery be threatened by an untimely turning of the tax screw, ”says Anja Frank, chairwoman of the IHK regional committee in Miesbach.

“The companies now need their liquidity primarily for investments.” The economy is therefore relying on the judgment of the municipalities, which the federal and state governments also lend a hand in the event of a corona-related financial imbalance.

According to Frank, a lower assessment rate leaves companies more breathing space and investing and leads to better economic development with corresponding tax revenues in the long term.

The basis of the IHK evaluation is the data on the business tax rates and municipal finances.

They are published regularly by the Bavarian State Office for Statistics.
