Campus World｜Tam Li Lifen Memorial Middle School Volunteer Team for the Elderly and Children Established a Community-Friendly School

The "SELF. New. Living" project implemented by the Church of Christ in China Tan Li Lifen Memorial Middle School started in 2018, with the themes of technology, environmental protection, community connection and fitness, encouraging students and the elderly to communicate with each other through activities.

The plan is to train students and the elderly to form an "Elderly and Child Volunteer Team" and set up a "Home Maintenance Care Volunteer Team" and an "Alcohol Handrub Volunteer Team" to serve and care for those in need in the community.

Home Maintenance Care Volunteer Team

The "Home Maintenance Care Volunteer Team" has three stages: theory, experience and service.

First, the elderly tutor teaches the students the basic knowledge and theory of repairing small household utensils, and then the students hands-on experience "saw wood" and "nail nailing" and other related techniques, and finally personally assist the elderly living alone with home repairs.

In the process, the elders and students use the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to carry out the processes of "paste dusting" and "painting" by themselves to help improve the home environment of the elderly living alone, so that students can learn to serve those in need and give back to the community !

Both Lu and Fan who participated in the activity said: "This activity is very meaningful. It allows me to walk out of the classroom and go to the community to help the elderly in need. It is a good experiential learning to transform the knowledge I have learned into action and practice! "Elderly mentor Mr. Wang said: "Seeing that students are not afraid of hard work and enthusiasm for service, try to use what they have learned to contribute to the community. The attitude is worthy of praise!"

Alcohol Handrub Volunteer Team

The plan is to hold an alcohol handrub production class. During the process, the elders teach students the skills of making handrubs. Students experience and hands-on the making of handrubs. They write down wish cards and exchange ideas with each other.

Later, the elders and students jointly carried out volunteer services in the community, and carried out street station services in Xintian Village, and distributed the alcohol handrubs made before to the community. I hope everyone will fight the epidemic together and stay healthy!

At the same time, it introduces the concept of the plan and the content of publicity activities, so that students can learn to give back to the community, promote the spirit of caring and mutual assistance, and cultivate students' positive values ​​and the spirit of helping others and themselves.

The school hopes that through various planned activities, the relationship with the community will become closer, and the image of a community-friendly school will be established.
