Protesters temporarily blocked the prefecture of Guyana on Friday, August 20, in Cayenne to contest the tightening of the curfew announced by the authorities before the Prefect called in the police.

Recalling the freedom to demonstrate, he "
denounces social hatred, acid projectiles or stones targeting the police or agents
".
The curfew was extended Friday morning from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., as well as Sunday, in a red zone in which the indicators are deteriorating (eight municipalities representing 62% of the population, including Cayenne and Kourou).
Daytime trips must be justified by a certificate.
The rest of the territory continues to respect a curfew from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The incidence levels observed in the most affected areas correspond to those observed at the peak of the third wave according to the prefecture, or 630 per 100,000 inhabitants on the island of Cayenne. In Guyana, 24.5% of those over 12 received two doses of the vaccine.
