Irschenberg - The annual general meeting of the Holzkirchen Forest Owners Association - canceled in 2020 due to Corona - offered plenty of space for a review.

At the annual general meeting of the Holzkirchen Association of Forest Owners (WBV), its chairman Michael Lechner reported on the difficult framework conditions for the private wood market in the past two years.

However, there were also bright spots such as the somewhat relaxing bark beetle infestation and a stabilizing price for round wood to report.

The subsidiary MW Biomasse is also developing positively.

The increase in membership fees almost went under when Lechner announced that he would no longer stand for election after 27 years as chairman.

However, there were no surprises in the new elections: all of the proposed candidates were elected with one abstention each.

Lechner's successor is Alexander Mayr from Waakirchen.

Record amount of wood felled

After the 2020 annual general meeting had to be canceled due to Corona, the invitation was deliberately kept flat this year.

Around 30 members and some interested people came to the Irschenberg traditional costume home.

At the beginning, Lechner reported over two years with difficult framework conditions for private forestry.

The log price has improved somewhat in the past few months.

Before that, however, it was very modest.

One of the reasons for this was the record amount of 80 million solid cubic meters of round wood struck in Germany - 60 million of which was beetle wood.

Sawmills in Tyrol cannot be reached

"The big corporations have managed to get cheap wood from many different regions, manufacture high-quality products from it and sell them at record prices," said Lechner, noting that there was no sign of a fair partnership and respect for the forest owners was.

The borders that were temporarily closed due to Corona, which made it impossible to bring wood to sawmills in Tyrol, would not have simplified the situation.

"There is now the vague hope that the beetle wood will decrease, the wood price will again take on more realistic forms and that there will not be another lockdown," said Lechner.

He positively highlighted the valuable wood submission of the past two years, in which maximum prices were achieved for different types of wood.

Tremendous damage from beetles and storms

Lechner described a hunt based on the motto "Forest before game" as a decisive factor for the success of the necessary forest conversion: "It is incomprehensible to me why no up-to-date hunting law was introduced given the enormous damage caused by beetles and storms." he to the district office Miesbach: "The hunting advisory board is being tamed and slowed down."

As Christian Webert from the Holzkirchen Office for Food, Agriculture and Forests (AELF) reported in his welcoming address, at least 80 percent of the forest owners have applied for an area-related report: “On the basis of this important instrument, a transparent shooting plan can be created that is comprehensible to the public. "

Subsidiary MW Biomasse is growing

Managing director Alexander Necker had good things to say: "Our subsidiary MW Biomasse is growing and thriving."

In addition, around 3.3 tons of pellets were marketed in the same year.

Together, this corresponds to a saving of a good 5.84 million liters of heating oil and around 15,500 tons of CO2.

“The demand is still high and the added value remains regional,” said Necker.

The number of members remains relatively constant at around 2,260, who jointly cultivate an area of around 32,000 hectares.

With two abstentions, it was finally decided to increase the membership fees.

The last time this happened was ten years ago.

As expected, the election of the new board of directors went smoothly and without a dissenting vote:

  • At the suggestion of the meeting, Alexander Mayr (51) was elected as the new first chairman.

  • Matthias Muth (47) from Valley was confirmed in office as second chairman and Martin März from Sachsenkam as assessor.

  • New assessors are Alois Willerer and Josef Meier from Holzkirchen from Bavaria.
