Munich - In the last school year, students and teachers in Bavaria were tested for the corona virus * several times a week.

This is to be continued after the summer holidays, but then no longer with the previous quick tests, but with pool tests - at least for the little ones.

Even uncomplicated vaccinations are a done deal for the coming school year *.

Schools in Bavaria: This is planned after the summer vacation

Education Minister Michael Piazolo announced it at the end of the last school year, now the pool tests in schools seem to be safe.

In a joint press release, Piazolo and Health Minister Holetschek explain how to proceed.

In September, PCR pool tests are to be introduced for grades one to four as well as special schools with a focus on mental development, physical and motor development as well as vision.

A mask requirement is planned for the first few weeks, according to the press release.

The so-called "lollipop method" is to be used in elementary and special schools. The children have to suck on a swab for 30 seconds, similar to a lollipop. In addition, individual samples are taken from the children in order to be able to determine immediately which child has become infected in the event of a positive case in the pool. “It is much easier to carry out the lollipop tests, especially for the little ones,” explains Piazolo. "This increases security and improves our test concept."

Health Minister Holetschek also supports the approach: “I am pleased that we are enabling many children to attend school, social contacts and learning together with the pool tests. Precisely because under-12-year-olds cannot be vaccinated, tests are of central importance for this age group ”. In this way, infections can be detected early and their spread prevented. (
