Tensions in the north:
The interim Lebanese prime minister, Hassan Diab, this morning (Friday) ordered the Lebanese delegation to the UN to prepare a complaint to the Security Council, due to the airstrike attributed to Israel in Syria from the Beirut area, which diverted civilian routes for fear of disaster.
"Israel continues to violate Lebanon's sovereignty," Diab said, adding that "the UN and the international community are expected to condemn Israeli aggression and take action to ensure Lebanese sovereignty and defend Resolution 1701."
As you may recall, Syrian television reported yesterday that air defense systems were activated over the skies of Damascus to intercept hostile targets.
At the same time, the Sana news agency reported echoes of explosions in the capital area.
According to a Syrian report, Israeli aircraft carried out attacks on sites belonging to the Assad regime and the Iranian militias on Mount al-Kaswa west of Damascus.
A Syrian military source told the Sana network that the defense systems intercepted most of the missiles and the results of the attack are clear.
Lebanese media also reported that six missiles were fired from Lebanese airspace at Quds Force targets in the Damascus area, and two missiles were intercepted.
It was further reported that four more missiles fell in open areas causing little damage.
