Forstinning - The Culture Club in the basement of the VfB Forstinning sports center has been the only meeting place for young people in town for years.

Those who wanted to go further away needed a car or the parents who drove to the S-Bahn or to the locations in the larger communities in the area.

But the kids managed to create a refuge in the basement - with a bar, table football and disco area. Sometimes the adults were also guests and celebrated parties there. The club had to be closed due to water damage, renovation work and, ultimately, the pandemic. But Mathias Weigl, social pedagogue at the Forstinning youth care team, did not remain idle during this time. He and a small team kept the business running in the background, developed hygiene concepts and trained six local youths as youth leaders who, among other things, are supposed to take care of the "fallow" facility.

It now shines again in a new shine. Last week there was the first "open meeting" on the sports grounds. On the one hand, 25 kids were able to let off steam on the hard court in the Soccout-Arena - a mini soccer field - shooting goal wall and playing pool. To cool off and exchange views, people met in the cellar for happy hour with non-alcoholic cocktails, where Mathias Weigl, together with Alexandra Peter, youth care worker in Anzing, was there to give the youngsters advice and support. The two had organized the "Opening" and were supported by Lisa-Marie Bötsch, youth spokeswoman and Green Councilor, who wants to be more involved in the "Culture" scene.

It can definitely be seen in a new look. Everything freshly painted, lots of light, a couch to chill out, a separate DJ desk, a foosball table and of course a large bar, which will certainly be the focus of the other open get-togethers.

"We will clarify how things should continue with the youth leader team," says Weigl, "they should revitalize the club". He would only like to provide advice himself, because the Culture Club is a project “by young people for young people”. One can only hope that the local offspring will accept the offer. - NS
