“These are just examples of the conditions in which a cleaner finds rooms in four-star hotels. And then they want us to clean 23 to 25 rooms in less than six hours, ”writes the Benidorm Housekeeping Association, called Kellys, about the disgusting photos on Twitter. Yolanda García, cleaner in Benidorm and member of the Kelly Association, told costanachrichten.com * that such dirty rooms are not uncommon in hotels. "During the high season we find rooms in a similar condition almost every day," says García. She reports of dirty diapers that guests leave on the bed and even of a baby bottle that contained the same milk for three days in the middle of the hot Spanish midsummer.

Fight for better working conditions: cleaner from Benidorm wants to shake up with disgusting photos

In Spain, the disgusting pictures from the hotel quickly got through all the media and brought the cleaning staff the attention that women in Benidorm and many other tourist places urgently need.

"Apart from the fact that some customers are anti-social and do not appreciate the work behind cleaning a room, we cannot continue with such a workload," the Kellys write about the published photos.

Especially since the additional expense of corona disinfection now comes in addition to normal cleaning.

“For a room like the one in the photos, a cleaner needs at least an hour.

However, we only have an average of ten minutes per room, ”says cleaner Yolanda García.

For years the maids in Benidorm and other places in Spain have been demanding better working conditions.

While the guests enjoy the beautiful beaches and bays on the Costa Blanca *, the cleaning staff toil in secret.

Among other things, the Kellys complain about poor pay from temporary employment agencies, about too many rooms for often poorly clean guests that every woman has to manage per shift in a hotel.

And the occupational diseases, which primarily affect the back and joints of a cleaner, are finally recognized as such - but according to the Kellys, nothing or too little is still being done for prevention.

“The economic recovery is weighing on our shoulders, which are already aching,” said the cleaning staff from Benidorm. And: “The summer is extremely hard, with many changing guests, and the situation of the housekeeping is still the same or just as bad as it was before Corona. The

long-

awaited vacation of the tourists is once again the same hell for us. ”
