As the Spanish sea rescue service announced on Wednesday (August 18), a man was killed when a ferry ran over his rubber dinghy as it entered the port of Ibiza at night.

The accident occurred on Tuesday at around 11.35 p.m.

The victim, a 46-year-old Spaniard, was beheaded, the Spanish sea rescue service said.

The second occupant (46) of the inflatable boat, which was completely destroyed in the accident, was able to save himself by jumping into the water.

A little later, he was recovered slightly injured and taken to a hospital.

The ferry of the company Baleària was en route between the islands of Formentera and Ibiza.

The Baleària company said it regretted the accident and said it was working closely with the authorities to investigate the cause of the tragedy.

The 132 passengers and ten crew members of the ferry were unharmed, it said.
